Feline Friends is a nonprofit vol-

tion fee includes spay-neuter service,
feline AIDS test and parasite control.

Adoptions cost $75 plus $5 for a city
license. New dogs are brought in all the

In observance of Presidents'
Day, the local Veterans Service Of-
fice will be closed on Monday, Feb-
ruary 19. The office will be open on
Monday, February 26.
Messages may be left at 426-
4546. Regular office hours are
from 9 a.m. until noon. The office
accepts veterans until 11:30 a.m.,
in order for paperwork to be com-
pleted by noon.
The office is located in Memo-
rial Hall at Second and Franklin
streets in downtown Shelton.
Nonprofit
alliance sets
meeting on
volunteerism
The Mason County Non-Profit
Alliance will meet at noon this Fri-
day, February 16, at the Shelton
Community & Transit Center, 601
West Franklin Street in downtown
Shelton.
Vohmteers will be the tbcus of
this month's meeting, said Sue
Sheldon, co-organizer of the alli-
ance with Kim Klint.
"Those of us in the nonprofit sec-
tor are really the experts at work-
ing with volunteers," Sheldon said,
"So we're inviting our members to
share their experiences and suc-
cess stories, as well as their fi'us-
trations and questions. We'll all
be our own expert guest speakers
at this meeting - so it should be
fun!"
According to Sheldon, the alli-
ance is made up primarily of social
set-eice nonprofits in Mason Coun-
ty that want to better serve their
clients by joining together in an
organized network. Representa-
tives of other nonprofit groups are
welcome too.
"We would like everyone to
bring with them samples of what-
ever volunteer materials they have
- ibrms fbr volunteer sign-up and
background checks, training man-
uals, job descriptions, recognition
certificates, ads /br recruitment,
and so forth," added Klint.
Meetings are planned for the
third Friday of each month. The
Shelton Community & Transit
Center is located next door to the
Shelton Cinemas and across the
street from Safeway.

Hughes to talk of hypertufa
Dave Hughes will address next week's meeting of the Shelton
Kiwanis CLub. He will talk about hypertufa Alpine planters. The
meeting will begin at noon on Tuesday, February 20, at Xinh's
Clam and Oyster House, 221 West Railroad Avenue in downtown
Shelton. Hughes had initially been scheduled to speak at this
week's meeting, but was rescheduled to next week.
Ladies to win longevity pins
The Mason County Veterans 9f Foreign Wars Post 1694 and
the Ladies Auxiliary have scheduled a dinner for past command-
ers and past presidents at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, February 16, at
Memorial Hall at Second and Franklin streets in downtown Shel-
ton. Members are asked to bring a salad or dessert to this event.
Auxiliary members will be presented with longevity pins. They
will also host a card party at 1 p.m. that afternoon. All proceeds
will benefit the cancer aid and research program. The post and
auxiliary also host bingo each Saturday, with "early-bird" bingo
beginning at 6:30 p.m. The public is welcome at the card party
and bingo.
University women will meet
The local, Olympia chapter of the American Association of Uni-
versity Women will meet on Monday, February 19, at Traditions
Fair Trade Restaurant and Handicraft Shop, 300 Fifth Avenue
SW in Olympia.
Dinner for members and guests will be served at 6 p.m. The
menu will feature a selection of either lasagna, vegetable or spin-
ach feta quiche or Greek salad, each with a cup of soup. The fea-
tured speaker for the diversity program will be Vincent Hughes
who will talk about "Researching Black Roots."

Democratic women to meet
The Mason County Democratic Women's Club will host its
monthly meeting at noon on Wednesday, February 21, at El Sar-
ape Restaurant, 2503 Olympic Highway North in Shelton. A no-
host luncheon will begin at 11:30 a.m. Following a short business
meeting at noon, Shana Melanson from Governor Christine Gre-
goire's office will give an update on various issues. The public.is

Members of the Irene S. Reed High School Class of 1952 will

"Sometimes we get up to 20-
25 players in my room at home,"
he says of his exciting card-game
parties.
"And I take my wife shop-
ping," he adds. According to
Moose etiquette, every time a
man forgets to introduce his wife
or significant other at a meeting,
he has to buy her a new dress.
Roxie has closets full of dresses
he's bought her.
"I LOVE MY wardrobe!" she
says.
Steve shared a recipe for a
rich entree he served recently
at the firefighters' appreciation
dinner. Quantities for the ingre-
dients depend on how many will
be dining. "You don't want to be
on a diet with this recipe," Roxie
says with a laugh.
Chicken Cordon Bleu
Ingredients:
10-oz chicken breast
ll/2 parts heavy cream
1 part cream of mushroom soup,
concentrated
White and yellow cheese, shred-
ded
White cheese, sliced
Ham, finely diced
Bread crumbs
Preparation."
Pound the chicken down to 1/4-
inch thick. Mix the cream and
mushroom sauce.
Place two tablespoons of sauce
mixture on top of the chicken, fol-
lowed by a handful of white and
yellow cheese and ham, topped
by a slice of white cheese.
Roll this all up and hold the
ends together with two tooth-
picks. Arrange the
breasts close together in a
ing dish and pour the
over top until it halfway
pan.
Then sprinkle more
ham, shredded cheese and
crumbs - in that order
Bake for 25 minutes at 350'
grees Fahrenheit, then pour
rest of the cream sauce up to
top of the pan. Bake for
40 minutes before serving.
