Boys & girls alike: Hoop Climbers make district First the good news: To Climb- er hoopdom's boys and girls alike have gone the spoils of the West- ern Cascade Conference playoff chase. The not-so-good news is their shared fourth-seed predicament finds the Climbers skidding in the boys' case. Indeed, while their distaff counterparts were winning their third in a row Friday night the fellas were dropping their fourth in the past five games, suf- fering North Thurston here 57-66 in overtime. "It was a tough one to lose," said veteran coach Mark Jensen, not- ing that it means his boys probably will have a significantly tougher draw at district next week. With their loss to Thurston the boys dropped to 6-5 in league and 12-8 overall. Thurston improved to 7-4 in league. The Climber girls knocked off Thurston on the Rams' court by a 57-38 count Friday night and thus improved to 5-6 in league and 9- 9 overall. Like their boy counter- parts they had the fourth district berth virtually locked up going into tomorrow night's regular-sea- son finale. The district tourney will be held over midwinter break, next week. VARSITY BOYS NorthThurston 4 19 36 53 66 Shelton 12 26 35 53 57 North Thurston - Cody Brooks 13, D.J. Participants may just show up unannounced if they so desire, say organizers, but if they're able to give advance notice of their in- tention to play it wouldn't hurt. Action, which includes the usual alumni fun plus the likes of cheerleader and dance-team exhibitions and local kids- league skirmishes, is set to start around 5 p.m. that evening in the Minidome. Admission is $5 per person or $15 per family, and proceeds benefit the nonprofit Citizens for Shelton Schools or- ganization.
