He just got outwrestled a couple times. But he had a great year. We're proud of what he's done. "At 160, Nathan Zoren was 1-2. And he started kinda s4ow in the tournament but picked it up. His last match, he wrestled well in it. He was beat, but he gave a pretty solid effort. "Jordan Frost got in as an alter- nate at 189 when one of the other wrestlers from our league was hurt. And so he was really excited to get to wrestle. And he wrestled the kids that placed second and third at his weight. Those were his two matches. So he wrestled two really tough kids. And he com- peted extremely well against both, but he didn't win his matches. He was 0-2. "ISIDRO ANTONIO was at 215 along with Isaac. It was a great experience for him, I think. It was his first time bein' in the postseason, and his second year wrestling. And in his first match he just got in a scramble and got caught. And he was the better of the two wrestlers, but he just got caught. And his second match he was wrestling just a great match, and it was close, but he was ahead. And at the end of the second pe- riod he had a very dominant take- down - took all the air out of the other wrestler. And that was with ten seconds left in the round. "And just through some fluke roll the kid ended up on top and kinda surprised Isidro. And he got pinned in that match. It was just a weird situation, how it ended up. And, you know, he wrestled well." MS. YATES, said Coach, carved out her historic niche at Liberty High School" in Issaquah, where the girls had their own separate qualifier. The top three in each weight bracket moved on to state, and our young Highclimber took third at 130 pounds. "Her first match she won by pin," said Lacy. "Her next match she was way ahead and then ei- ther got really nervous or really sick - and the other wrestler was able to come back on her. And she lost her semis match. "But then she came back and had two pins to advance to state. And in one of the pins she had to battle back. She was behind 'by a decent amount of points and really had to collect herself to advance to state. 4 "So she'll be in. And it's the first official girls' state tournament, this year. The girls had to qualify, and they had to go through a sub- regionals and regionals just like the boys. "So it's kind of good to see that part of the sport progressing." LIKE TEAMMATE Bennett, Kim will join the all-Washington "Mat Classic" fray tomorrow and Saturday in the Tacoma Dome. Both Climbers are expected to wrestle first in the 10 o'clock morn- ing hour Friday. "In years past," noted Lacy, "the girls have wrestled after the boys were done. And this year they'll be wrestling concurrently - at the same time. The girls will have their own tournament setup, and it's an official state tourna- ment now." Incidentally, Shelton wound up seventh out of 17 in Saturday's regional team championship. lSwimmin' , .: ,.:g¢ AND THEY PASSED the miles pretty much side by side, too, as it happens, when Climber cross-country and track veterans Breana Chavez (left) and Ally Ducker completed the Pacific Shoreline Marathon earlier this month in Hun- tington Beach, California. The Shelton 17-year-olds aver- aged 10:12 miles en route to respective 4:27:15 and 4:27:14 clockings in their first competitive tests over the 26.2-mile distance. They were 127th and 128th out of 331 women in a field of nearly one thousand runners. The two seniors are expected to be at the Climber fore once again when track turnout starts after midwinter break.
