2. Wrestled well. Just basically got
beat. You know, he didn't really
make any mistakes. He just got
outwrestled a couple times. But he
had a great year. We're proud of
what he's done.
"At 160, Nathan Zoren was 1-2.
And he started kinda s4ow in the
tournament but picked it up. His
last match, he wrestled well in it.
He was beat, but he gave a pretty
solid effort.
"Jordan Frost got in as an alter-
nate at 189 when one of the other
wrestlers from our league was
hurt. And so he was really excited
to get to wrestle. And he wrestled
the kids that placed second and
third at his weight. Those were
his two matches. So he wrestled
two really tough kids. And he com-
peted extremely well against both,
but he didn't win his matches. He
was 0-2.
"ISIDRO ANTONIO was at
215 along with Isaac. It was a
great experience for him, I think.
It was his first time bein' in the
postseason, and his second year
wrestling. And in his first match
he just got in a scramble and got
caught. And he was the better of
the two wrestlers, but he just got
caught. And his second match he
was wrestling just a great match,
and it was close, but he was ahead.
And at the end of the second pe-
riod he had a very dominant take-
down - took all the air out of the
other wrestler. And that was with
ten seconds left in the round.
"And just through some fluke
roll the kid ended up on top and
kinda surprised Isidro. And he got
pinned in that match. It was just a
weird situation, how it ended up.
And, you know, he wrestled well."
MS. YATES, said Coach, carved
out her historic niche at Liberty
High School" in Issaquah, where
the girls had their own separate
qualifier. The top three in each
weight bracket moved on to state,
and our young Highclimber took
third at 130 pounds.
"Her first match she won by
pin," said Lacy. "Her next match
she was way ahead and then ei-
ther got really nervous or really
sick - and the other wrestler was
able to come back on her. And she
lost her semis match.
"But then she came back and
had two pins to advance to state.
And in one of the pins she had to
battle back. She was behind 'by a
decent amount of points and really
had to collect herself to advance to
state.
4
"So she'll be in. And it's the first
official girls' state tournament,
this year. The girls had to qualify,
and they had to go through a sub-
regionals and regionals just like
the boys.
"So it's kind of good to see that
part of the sport progressing."
LIKE TEAMMATE Bennett,
Kim will join the all-Washington
"Mat Classic" fray tomorrow and
Saturday in the Tacoma Dome.
Both Climbers are expected to
wrestle first in the 10 o'clock morn-
ing hour Friday.
"In years past," noted Lacy,
"the girls have wrestled after the
boys were done. And this year
they'll be wrestling concurrently
- at the same time. The girls will
have their own tournament setup,
and it's an official state tourna-
ment now."
Incidentally, Shelton wound up
seventh out of 17 in Saturday's
regional team championship.

veterans Breana Chavez (left) and Ally Ducker completed
the Pacific Shoreline Marathon earlier this month in Hun-

aged 10:12 miles en route to respective 4:27:15 and 4:27:14
clockings in their first competitive tests over the 26.2-mile
distance. They were 127th and 128th out of 331 women in a
field of nearly one thousand runners. The two seniors are
expected to be at the Climber fore once again when track
turnout starts after midwinter break.
