Kostad reported finding Rodri-
guez coming out of the Wal-Mart

in the parking lot and said when
he searched the vehicle she was
a passenger in he found a small
woman's purse on the floor in front
of the passenger seat. It contained
$1,619 in cash. She claimed Whit-
ten gave her the money to buy a
car.

second degree. He is scheduled for
sentencing on March 5.
In his plea statement he admit-
ted taking a television set, valued
at $654, from Shelton Wal-Mart
without paying for it on August 2,
2006.
With an offender score of two,
the standard sentencing range is
from two to five months, Judge
Sawyer explained, noting a recom-
mendation that Byrd be allowed to
serve the sentence on work release
through Kitsap County.

Grapeview, entered Alford pleas of
guilty to charges of theft in the sec-
ond degree and possession of meth-
amphetamine. He is scheduled for
sentencing February 26.
He was arrested on November
4 by deputies who said Wilson was
driving a Chevrolet Malibu belong-
ing to Jennifer Torpey, who had
reported the vehicle stolen. Wilson
was searched and the officers found
a small plastic bag containing a
white substance which field-tested
positive for meth.
In an Alford plea a person does
not admit guilt but pleads guilty
because the evidence is such that a
jury would be likely to convict and
because of an offer from the state.
Charles Lane as defense attorney,
set bail at $7,500 and scheduled
arraignment for February 15. The
judge ordered Rodriguez to have
no contact with Whitten or Wal-
Mart.
Rodriguez pied guilty on Feb-
ruary 5 to possession of metham-
phetamine and was on conditions
of release in this case at the time
of her latest arrest, Deputy Pros-
ecutor Mike Dorcy reported. He
asked that she be taken into cus-
tody until she is sentenced in the
drug case.
Sheldon said Rodriguez would
be held in the Mason County Jail
pending sentencing in the drug
case on February 26.
On Monday, February 12, Joe
Paul Laudenbach, 54, of 27041
North Highway 101, Hoodsport,
was identified in an investiga-
tion of possession of methamphet-
amine.
He was arrested February 9 on
a Washington State Department of
Corrections warrant. Officers said
they searched his residence and
found a tin container with a small
baggie containing a white crystal
substance which field-tested posi-
tive for meth.

bail at $5,000 and scheduled ar-
raignment for February 26.

Teas arrested in rape investigation
A 26-year-old former Mason
County resident accused of having
sexual intercourse with a teenage
girl for several months in 2005 ap-
peared recently in Mason County
Superior Court.
Arthur Amos Teas Jr. of 3605
West Kennewick Avenue, Kenne-
wick, was identified on Wednesday,
February 7, in an investigation of
rape of a child in the third degree.
He entered a not-guilty plea and is
scheduled for an omnibus hearing

Detective Mike Foster of the
Mason County Sheriffs Office
reported interviewing Teas on
November 1, 2005 when he was
being held at the Mason County
Jail on a federal warrant for mail
theft.
According to court documents,
a 15-year-old girl identified in
court documents by the initials
"C.G.L." said she met Teas just
after her 15th birthday in June
2005. She said the first time she
had intercourse with Teas was
when she and he were with a
group of people who went camp-
ing along the Hamma Hamma
River later in the summer. They
then had sex once or twice a week
over a three- to four-month period
starting in August 2005. She said
the intercourse was consensual.

set bail at $5,000 and ordered him
to have no contact with C.G.L.
ert Lawrence Torpey, 57, of 551
NE Roy Boad Road, Belfair, was
identified in an investigation of
possession of methamphetamine,
possession of less than 40 grams
of marijuana and use of drug para-
phernalia.
He was arrested on February
7 by Trooper Rob Atkinson of the
Washington State Patrol who said
he stopped the vehicle Torpey was
driving for having an obscured
front license plate and discovered
Torpey's license was suspended.
The trooper said suspected drugs
were found inside the vehicle, as
were a bag containing a metal
smoking device, two glass smok-
ing devices with residue that field-
tested positive for meth, a rolled
cigarette of suspected marijuana
and a small amount of green veg-
etable material which field-tested
positive for marijuana.
Judge Sheldon appointed An-
drew Rubenstein to represent Tor-
pey. She exonerated the $5,000
bail which he posted and released
him on his promise to appear for
arraignment on February 15.
On Wednesday, February 7:
• Aimee Lynn Stallman, 20,
of 21 East Willow Place, Shelton,
was identified in an investigation
of theft in the third degree and two
counts of forgery. She has also been
known by the last name Lund.
She was arrested by Detective
Paul Campbell of the SPD who
said he was investigating a report
on January 23 from Barbara Giles
that her checks had been stolen
and two had been cashed. Ac-
cording to Campbell's report one
check was cashed on January 17
and written to Thomas Castellane
for $950 and the other was cashed
on the same date and made out to
Stallman for $450.
Judge Sheldon appointed Ru-
benstein as defense attorney, set
bail at $2,500 and scheduled ar-
raignment for February 14. She
ordered Stallman to have no con-
tact with Giles or Castellane, a po-
tential codefendant.
• Nicholas P. Shafer, 18, of
525 Arcadia Avenue, Shelton,
was identified in an investigation
of possession of a controlled sub-
stance, possession of less than 40
grams of marijuana, use of drug
paraphernalia and reckless driv-
ing.
He was arrested on February 6
by Trooper C.F. Magallon who said
he stopped the vehicle Shafer was
driving for speeding. The trooper
reported activating the lights and
siren on his patrol car and noted
Shafer's vehicle accelerated rapid-
ly, tailgated another vehicle, and
nearly struck the patrol vehicle.
Magallon said he searched the
vehicle and found a smoking device
with burnt green vegetable mate-
rial in an unlocked glove box and
a bag containing two pink pills,
known as "X," a street name for
ecstasy, a controlled substance.

• Akasha L. Garner, 18, of SE
764 Cook Plant Farm Road, Shel-
ton, was identified in an investiga-
tion of possession of methamphet-
amine, use of drug paraphernalia
and theft in the third degree.
She was arrested February 6
by Officer Kostad who said he was
responding to a report from Linda
Drogmund, an employee at the
Red Apple Market who said she
detained Garner for taking a bag
of M&Ms valued at $3.99. She al-
legedly told the officer the suspect
had a pipe in her bra and gave it
to Kostad. He said it contained a
white residue which field-tested
positive for meth.
Judge Sheldon appointed Ron-

appear for arraignment on Febru-
ary 14. The judge ordered her to
