a victory in the first round
of the District IV 1B Boys'
Basketball Tournament last
week.
On Saturday, Feb. 11, the
Knight Owls played at home
against the Seton Catholic
Cougars, winning 57-45.
Senior Eric Johnson
opened scoring for the
Knight Owls with a layup
shot early in the game and
the Owls kept the Cougars
from scoring for nearly the
first minute•
The two teams played
close for most of the first
quarter, with MMK up 8-6
with 3:49 remaining. From
that point, however, "the
Knight Owls went on to in-
crease their lead to 18-10 go-
ing into the second quarter•
"We started off real slow
tonight," head coach Tim
Diggle said.
Johnson and senior Sean
Sexton led the team in the
first quarter with six points
each.
In the second quarter,
Seton Catholic outscored the
Knight Owls 13-8, keeping
MMK off the board for more
than one minute until junior
Nick Dierkop scored on a la-
yup shot.
Turnovers. fouls and
trouble rebounding hurt the
Owls as the Cougars came
back to bring the score with-
in three points in the quar-
ter. At the half. the Knight
Owls were up 26-23•
In the third quarter, both
teams played each other
close once again, each scor-

Montesane "We fi-
nally got
in sync,
but it was probably about
halfway through the fourth
quarter when we did that,"
Diggie said. "I'd say Se-
ton Catholic played exactly
how we expected them to:
high tempo and all over the
place•"
Sexton agreed with his
coach, saying the game
started off rough for the
Knight Owls but that the
team came alive in the sec-
ond half.
Following behind Sex-
ton's lead, Johnson scored 11
points while O'Neil and'Di-
erkop put up 10 each. Junior
Kyle Willey and freshman
Chase Robecker rounded out
the scoring with eight and
four points, respectively.
"We tried to slow the
game back down to set
our pace and not let Se-
ton Catholic set it," Diggle
said. "We ended up adjust-
ing our offense to something
we weren't used to. They
plugged the high-post so we
ran a low-post and a high-
post, which intends to over-
load one end of the court."
Sexton said he thinks the
team has to move its feet a
little more and recognize
the little things while on the
court.
The Knight Owls are set
to play next at 6:30 p.m. on
Saturday, Feb, 18, against
Columbia Adventist at Mon-
tesano High School•
Diggle said the team
would be working on free
throws and changing up its
offense this week.
"I think we're going all
the way to state," Sexton
said. "I have no doubt our
team can do it."
