I Climbers bow out of districts
The Shelton High School boys basketball season saw its season end with a
65-49 loss to Columbia River on
Feb. 9 in a 2A District lV Pigtail game at Terry Gregg Court in Shelton.
Mason Goos (above) led Shelton with 17
points, while Weetly Cordova added 11‘for the Climbers, who finished
their season 11-9 overall. Shelton went
11-4 in its final 15 games after starting the season 0-5. Clockwise from

Shelton boys second at district swim meet ”

dict was the district champion in the
100-yard butterfly as the boys swim
team finished second at the District
IV 2A Championships at Dick Mealy
Pool at Mark Morris High School in
Longview.
Benedict finished the 100—yard
butterfly in 55.72 seconds, two sec-
onds faster than the second-place fin-
isher. He finished second in the 100-
yard breaststroke in 1:05.33.
Charlie Morson finished second in
the ZOO-yard freestyle in 2:00.51 and
fourth in the 500-yard freestyle in
5:41.60. Andrew Karr earned third
place in the ZOO-yard freestyle in
2:06.45 and fifth in the 500-yard free—
style in 5:51.20.
Judah Holzgrove finished fourth
in the ZOO-yard individual medley in
2:18.17 and fourth in the 100-yard
backstroke in 1:04.75. J ayden Loving—
foss finished fourth in the 100-yard
freestyle in 55.95 seconds.
The 4x50-yard medley relay team
of Lovingfoss, Benedict, Wyatt An-
this and Holzgrove finished second in
1:51.54. The 4x50-yard freestylelre-
lay team of Wyatt Anthis, Holzgrove,
Karr and Merson finished third in
1:41.27.
The 4x100-yard freestyle relay
team of Morson, Karr, Lovingfoss and
Benedict placed secondtwith a time of
‘ 3:43.72.
The Shelton swimmers who ad-
vanced will compete Friday and Sat—
urday-at the state 2A swim meet at
the King County Aquatic Center in
Federal Way.

at 170'pounds. He pinned Ho’ckinson’s Thomas Kov-
alchuk in the opening match and defeated Wash-
outal’s Isaac Gil by an 8-7 decision. Boxley lost to
W,F. West’s Tucker Land by pin in the finals.
' Shelto’n’s Daniel Tausa placed second at 285
pounds. Tuasa won in a 7-0 decision in his opening
match against Mark Morris’ Colten Reynolds and
won by a 6-4 decision in the semifinals to Columbia
River’s Diego’ Carrion. r W .F. West’s Daniel Matagi
pinned Tausa in the finals. . _
“Daniel Tausa’s semifinal match had been on his
calendar for 365 days,” Lacy wrote. “Last year Dan-
iel was eliminated by his Columbia River opponent.
Daniel had different plans for this season. He had a
great takedown and two-point near fall at the edge
of the mat. This‘was after trailing 3—0. His focus and
determination led to a 6-4 victory in which he domi—
nated the last four minutes of wrestling.”
Shelton’s' Richard Lingle at 113 pounds and J3);-
on Wolfe finished fourth at 182 pounds to earn a spot
in the state tournament. ‘ '
“Our fans and families have been an amazing
support system for the entire season and we look
forward to giving them lots of chances to make some
noise in the Tacoma Dome,” Lacy wrote.
The Shelton wrestlers will compete at the Mat
Classic on Friday and Saturday at the Tacoma
Dome. ,
