' ;hq:,,lton round out 4A Narrows League
| ,-
By DEAN SIEMON
For the fifth time in the
last six seasons, Shelton
High School boys basketball
closed the season below .500
and finished in the bottom
of the 4A Narrows League
for the third straight year.
This year's Highclimb-
ers finished 4-16 overall
and 2-12 in the league - the
highest win total since their
2006-07 season when they
were apart of the 3A West-
ern Cascade League (13-10,
6-4 league).
Shelton lost their sea-
son finale at Olympia High
School (18-2, 13-1 Narrows
League) on February 9, 64-
45.
"I thought we made some
strides and we were quite
competitive on most nights,"
said Shelton head coach
Mark Jensen.
Eleven of Shelton's losses
were by 10 points or more.
Each of Shelton's four wins
were by less than ten points
each.
"We had nights where we
didn't play very well and we
paid the price for it," Jensen
said. "We still have a long
way to go."
Shelton had three close
losses early in the season,
including the 49-46 Decem-
ber 4 matchup with cross-
county rival 2A North Ma-
son High School.
Shelton held a 35-21 half-
time lead and looked to be
on their way to a non-league
win before they were out-
scored 20-6 in the fourth
quarter.
Jensen said this has been
a consant problem for the
Highclimbers all season.
"It looked like it was one
quarter where we didn't
score very well," Jensen
said. "That was usually the
difference in the ball game."
The Highclimbers will

"He's a pretty good perim-
iter defender," Jensen said.
"He's a little bit undersized
as a wing in our league, but
he's got some bulk that al-
lows him to rebound well."
The largest returning
player for Shelton next
Season is sophomore David
Workman at six-foot-five,
who played a few minutes in
nine varsity games.
"You hope that he can put
some time into playing bas-
ketball [in the offseason],"
Jensen said. "The times he
played he looked like he
could handle it."
Looking ahead, Jensen
said he knows there will
be inexperience in terms of
varsity playing time with
eight juniors and three
sophomores.
"We have a number of
kids who have played bas-
ketball and we'll see if that
transfers over in wins and
losses," Jensen said.
