Highclimbers bounced back from a
loss to West Bremerton last week
to knock off East Bremerton's
Knights, 76-65, and keep a firm
grasp on second place in the
Olympic League.
Unlike the barnburner that
took place in Shelton Gym the first
time the two teams met this
season, the Climbers did not blow
their lead, and ended up winning it
handily instead of by a last-second
basket.
Sparks was hot in the first half.
quarter. Jones helped the Climber
cause with five.
In a wild fourth quarter,
Shelton took advantage of
numerous East fouls to score nine
of their 23 points from the charity
line. Both teams hit seven field
goals, but it was Shelton's free
tosses that iced the game. Rusty
Corey was the hottest at the line
for the visitors, hitting on five of
Jess Mobil charged into second
six attempts.
Shelton had 31 buckets in the
game to Bremerton's 25, which
helped because East made one
more free throw than did the
Climbers.
The win was an important one
for Shelton. Not only did it knock
East out of any possible chance at
the state playoffs, but it kept
Shelton in a solid two game lead
and Turner six more for 15 of the
19 first quarter points registered
by Shelton.

To Knights
Outscored in every period,
Shelton's jayvees were unable to
overcome East Bremerton last
Friday night in Bremerton. Their
record dropped to 7-9 for the
season as they fell 67-50 to the
K nights.
East led 12-9 at the end of the
first period and the trend kept up
throughout the game. The
Climbers were kept within three
points mainly by Mike Bac who
had six points on three field goals.
Shelton was outgunned 16-9 in
the second stanza of play and
East took a 28-18 halftime lead.
Rich Walker had five of the
('limbers' nine points.
Bruce Cole led a third period
charge by the Climbers with six
points, but while Shelton was
getting 13, the Knights made 17
points and led 45-31 at the end of
the quarter.
Both teams opened up in the
fourth quarter, but again East
won the scoring battle 22-19 and
ended up the victor. Jeff Okano
made five of five from the line
and three buckets for eleven
points in that binge. He was the
Climbers' leading scorer with 13.
The Knights had three scorers
in the teens and ten pointmakers
altogether. Shelton also had ten
scorers, but five of them made
two points or less.
For Shelton, Okano led with

and Bolender one. For the losers,
Cagser had seven, Welch five, and
tlutson four.
The seventh grade was also
victorious over Mary M. Kngiht.
Leading the Trojans attack was
Miller with nine. Frint was next
with five, Molinaro had four,
Grindle and Arkin three, and
Jarvis and Anderson two.
Welch led the losers with eight.

second spot in the standings when
they beat league-leading Gott Oil,
and ITT won the only game they
played by a slaughter over cellar
dweller Prepp's.
Verle's and ITT have a makeup
game, the loser of which will drop
out of second place. The winner
of that game will be in a tie with
Jess for second.
In February 1 lth's two games,
Verle's turned a close game at
halftime into a mild runaway, as
they came back from a 28-27
midway deficit to beat Gott,
67-52. Ed Dawson poured in 25
points for the victors and team
mate Terry Gregg added 23 as
Verle's pulled off the upset. Other
scorers for Verle's were Marquett
11, Johanson 6, and Craber 2.
Gott was led by Andrews with
19. Clary had 16, Corey 12,
Coleman three, and Young two.
Jess Mobil won one of its two
games on the l lth when they
downed Prepp's 83-47. Leading
by 33-20 at the half, Jess turned
it into a rout in the second half.
The winners got ten scorers in the
game, who were led by Landis
,with 25. Fredson had 15, Mills
11, Earl eight, Richards seven,
Andrews six, Spilseth and
LaBissoniere four, Barrington
two, and Wilson one.
Prepp's Bake was their only
player to break double figures in
scoring. He had 15, while
Bostrom had nine, Rolfe and
Erwin eight, and Prepperneau
seven.
Prepp's kept their perfect
record intact on Monday night,
losing to ITT in a tight battle,
115-56. Mallory gunned in 44
points for the winners, and
Kimberling added 29. Other
scorers for ITT were Jorg with 17,
Ewart 16, and Antilla nine.
Prepperneau had 20 in the
losing cause. Bake made 15, Rolfe
and Bostrom each had eight,
Bransford three, and Villines two.
ITT had approximately doubled
Prepp's score at the half, 50-24,
and kept the pressure on in the
remainder of the game.
