Unlike the barnburner that took place in Shelton Gym the first time the two teams met this season, the Climbers did not blow their lead, and ended up winning it handily instead of by a last-second basket. Sparks was hot in the first half. quarter. Jones helped the Climber cause with five. In a wild fourth quarter, Shelton took advantage of numerous East fouls to score nine of their 23 points from the charity line. Both teams hit seven field goals, but it was Shelton's free tosses that iced the game. Rusty Corey was the hottest at the line for the visitors, hitting on five of Jess Mobil charged into second six attempts. Shelton had 31 buckets in the game to Bremerton's 25, which helped because East made one more free throw than did the Climbers. The win was an important one for Shelton. Not only did it knock East out of any possible chance at the state playoffs, but it kept Shelton in a solid two game lead and Turner six more for 15 of the 19 first quarter points registered by Shelton. Rich Walker had five of the ('limbers' nine points. Bruce Cole led a third period charge by the Climbers with six points, but while Shelton was getting 13, the Knights made 17 points and led 45-31 at the end of the quarter. Both teams opened up in the fourth quarter, but again East won the scoring battle 22-19 and ended up the victor. Jeff Okano made five of five from the line and three buckets for eleven points in that binge. He was the Climbers' leading scorer with 13.
