Election: Shelton, MMK, Pioneer, Grapeview levies pass continued from page A-1 thankful to the community,” Superintendent Alex Apostle told the Shelton-Mason County Journal. Apostle pointed out that voters rejected 16 of 21 school bond proposals throughout the state. “It’s a tough climate out there, economi- cally,” he said. As for the Shelton School District, “We have positive momentum going on with our academies,” he said. On the initial count, Pioneer had 1,670 “yes” votes for 52.55% and 1,508 “no” votes. That percentage rose to 52.79% after the sec- ond count. ' “Our community shoWed their faith and belief in our schools by voting for our levy,” said Pioneer Superintendent John Gummel. “We’ve been working hard to ensure we are developing students who are both academi- cally and socially healthy — the whole child, and our community supports these values. In order to continue in our efforts to grow the whole child, we must take different ap- proaches for student development. Passing our levy gives us more options and opportu- nities furthering this practice.” Gummel added, “I am proud of the work we all do: parents, students, staff and com— munity all have ownership in out education system.” On the initial count, Grapeview’s levy had 602 “yes” votes and 443 “no” votes for 57.61%. That percentage increased to 58.54%. On the first count, Mary M. Knight’s levy had 160 “yes” votes and 153 “no” votes for 51.12% in Mason County, and 18 “yes” votes and 16 “no” votes in Grays Harbor County.
