Love INC raises $4K at event STAFF REPORT pr@masoncounty.com More than 160 people came to Love INC of Ma- son County's Soup & Song Benefit Concert on Feb. 12, raising more than $4,000 for the nonprofit group. Attendees sampled soups, including a geo- duck clam chowder pro- vided by Xinh's Clam and Oyster House in do~vn- town Shelton; Gianni's Cucina offered two Ital- ian soups, capicollo chow- der and sundried tomato pesto; The Strip Steak House made steak and baked potato chowder; and Margie from Seventh Day Adventist Church, also a Love INC board member, brought lentil and vegetable soup. The evening began with a welcome by Jayni Kamin and prayer by pastor Jeff Bursch, followed by a slide show called "Face of Love," which included informa- tion about Love INC's ministries. The Nakhla Family band provided music at the event. Love INC volunteers and staff shared stories. Leanne Shipp, Love INC's clearinghouse coordina- tor, told a story about knit hats that were given to oncology patients and how on her next visit all the patients were wearing them. Dave McNeil of the firewood ministry de- scribed the relationship he has built with an elderly woman whose house had an indoor temperature of 50 degrees before he and his crew started supplying her with firewood. His sons participate in harvesting about half a cord of wood for each re- cipient weekly. Barb Weza spearheads the soup kitchen at the St. David of Wales Episcopal Church and told the story of how she was moved to take on such a task.
