Mary's Memoirs Sam is recuperating from the hip thing and hitched a ride home from the hospital with the bread man. You got to love that one. Not what you know but who you know sometimes. Enjoy! Thursday, Feb. 21, 1935 Sam came home with the Tacoma bread man from the hospital and he looks good. And my, the company he had all afternoon. Friday, Feb. 22, 1935 A busy aftenloon and Sam had lots of visitors. He is quite tired to- night. Mrs. Beck, Spence Ames. Aunt Mary and Uncle Louie were in and many others. A long day. Closed up late and to the beach. Saturday, Feb. 23, 1935 A wonderfnl warm sunny day and we certainly were busy. Sam was down at the beach the greater part of the day so he looked rested at night. Doug and Elizabeth came down and spent part of the By CLYDENE evening. I was so HOSTETLER tired I was poor company. I was so tired. ~i~~ Sunday, Feb. 24, 1935 Another sunny day. I opened up the stere and worked until 2 when Gor- don came in and I had the rest of the day off. We drove down to Hoodsport and back after a wonderful dinner of spring chicken. How we enjoyed it. The ride and the chicken both. Went to my dad's and got a lovely bunch of violets. Went to see Jean Parker in "Sequoia" with Gordon, Wanda and Camellia Pearsall. A wonderful show. Home late and ate cake. Sam still up when we got home so I got warm be- fore I went to bed. It is freezing out. Clarence Davis was out to see Sam today. Sam had lots of company. Monday, Feb. 25, 1935 A real cold morning. Froze real hard last night. Sam took the Chevy to Seattle and Emmet Ori drove the truck. So by tonight Sam will be aw- fully tired I'm afraid. His mother went back with him. Received a letter from my mother today. She is still at Pot- latch. Wanda is sewing on my green dress. It will be real cute. Erma and Mrs. Orr beth got permanent waves Saturday. Mrs. Beck was over today. She doesn't feel so good. Louie and Grace took me down to the beach and the fire was so warm. We sat and talked quite a while. Read a while and went to bed. Sam came home late. Tuesday, Feb. 26, 1935 A very cold day. We got out a lot of relief orders but the rest of the day was fairly quiet. Who should pop in Mary Theler sits with her feet on us but Kenneth Nason. He is sell- ing suits now. Is over trying to sell one to Don now. Sam brought home some crabs and crabmeat. My, it was good. We will eat the rest at the beach later. Raining again and warm outside. Emmet Ori went to town today and got a lot of feed, hay and pipe. Delivered stuff to Ryan. Down to the beach and to bed. Nichols was over and he is going to bid on the lumber shed. Wednesday, Feb. 27, 1935 Very quiet in the store. Wanda had the dayoff so went with Sam to Tacoma to see the doctor. Ken- neth sold Don a suit and went to see if he could sell any of the CCC suits. My pongee goods came from Wards. It is very pretty. Will make up nice. Nice and thin for summer wear. I never have time in the summer to get things made. CC Rice was in the store today and we had quite a talk. Sam home late. I had to look up whatpongee was. It's a soft woven cloth that came from China. You can tell through Mary's words she is looking forward to sum- mer. It's about this time in the year we all are looking forward to sum- mer.
