Mary's Memoirs
Sam is recuperating from the hip
thing and hitched a ride home from
the hospital with the bread man. You
got to love that one. Not what you
know but who you know sometimes.
Enjoy!

Sam came home with the Tacoma
bread man from the hospital and he
looks good.
And my, the company he had all
afternoon.

A busy aftenloon and Sam had
lots of visitors. He is quite tired to-
night. Mrs. Beck, Spence Ames. Aunt
Mary and Uncle Louie were in and
many others. A long day. Closed up
late and to the beach.
Saturday, Feb. 23, 1935
A wonderfnl warm sunny day and
we certainly
were busy. Sam
was down at
the beach the

Another sunny day. I opened up the
stere and worked until 2 when Gor-
don came in and I had the rest of the
day off. We drove down to Hoodsport
and back after a wonderful dinner of
spring chicken. How we enjoyed it.
The ride and the chicken both. Went
to my dad's and got a lovely bunch of
violets. Went to see Jean Parker in
"Sequoia" with Gordon, Wanda and
Camellia Pearsall. A wonderful show.
Home late and ate cake. Sam still up
when we got home so I got warm be-
fore I went to bed. It is freezing out.
Clarence Davis was out to see Sam
today. Sam had lots of company.
Monday, Feb. 25, 1935
A real cold morning. Froze real
hard last night. Sam took the Chevy
to Seattle and Emmet Ori drove the
truck. So by tonight Sam will be aw-
fully tired I'm afraid. His mother went
back with him. Received a letter from
my mother today. She is still at Pot-
latch. Wanda is sewing on my green
dress. It will be real cute. Erma and
Mrs. Orr beth got permanent waves
Saturday. Mrs. Beck was over today.
She doesn't feel so good. Louie and
Grace took me down to the beach and
the fire was so warm. We sat and
talked quite a while. Read a while and
went to bed. Sam came home late.
Tuesday, Feb. 26, 1935
A very cold day. We got out a lot
of relief orders but the rest of the day
was fairly quiet. Who should pop in
Mary Theler sits with her feet
on us but Kenneth Nason. He is sell-
ing suits now. Is over trying to sell
one to Don now. Sam brought home
some crabs and crabmeat. My, it
was good. We will eat the rest at the
beach later. Raining again and warm
outside. Emmet Ori went to town
today and got a lot of feed, hay and
pipe. Delivered stuff to Ryan. Down
to the beach and to bed. Nichols was
over and he is going to bid on the
lumber shed.
Wednesday, Feb. 27, 1935
Very quiet in the store. Wanda
had the dayoff so went with Sam
to Tacoma to see the doctor. Ken-
neth sold Don a suit and went to
see if he could sell any of the CCC
suits. My pongee goods came from
Wards. It is very pretty. Will make
up nice. Nice and thin for summer
wear. Next month I'm going to town
to buy enough underwear for sum-

mer. So Fll be all ready for the hot
weather. Seems a long time offbut :~.
I never have time in the summer to
get things made. CC Rice was in the
store today and we had quite a talk.
Sam home late.
I had to look up whatpongee was.
It's a soft woven cloth that came from
China. You can tell through Mary's
words she is looking forward to sum-
mer. It's about this time in the year
we all are looking forward to sum-
mer. Thank you for reading this
week's diary.
