Lemmon resigns
as United Way
director
United Way of Mason County on
Monday announced Carrie Lemmon
resigned from her four-year post as
executive director.
In a press release, the nonprofit
organization states it is working with
neighboring United Way agencies to
review the job description for the posi-
tion before opening it up to the public
for qualified applicants. United Way
of Mason County will remain open
and continue its commitments, the
agency states.
In her position, Lemmon oversaw
daily operations and collaborated with
other organizations and businesses in
Mason County to mobilize the com-
munity to help residents in need. She
organized events that included the
annual Valentine's Day auction, Day
of Caring Mason County, and the
Free Community Dump Day.

Fight cancer by
joining Relay for
Life team
Start a team, or join a team at
the Relay for Life of Shelton kick-off
event from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at
E1 Puerto de Angeles, 2503 Olympic
Highway North, Shelton.
Relay for Life is a team-based event
to raise awareness and money for the
American Cancer Society's research,
education and patient services

Hollywood dress-
up time at bingo/
Hear plans for
improvements at
Schafer State Park
" Iollywood dress-up" is the cos-
tume theme of the monthly Bingo
Karaoke event Friday at the Pavilion,
190 W. Sentry Drive, Shelton.
The doors open at 6 p.m and the
singing and bingo is from 7 to 10 p.m.
Admission is $10. Patrons must be
at least 21 years old. Free bingo cards
to anyone who attended the last three
consecutive events.
Food and drink are available for
cash only. The event raises money
for the Mason County Senior Activity
Center.
Local youths
showcase music
talent at contest
Local youths in grades three
through 12 will sing and play instru-
ments at the "Music 2 Our Ears"
music competition from 6 to 8 p.m.
Saturday at the Harstine Island Com-
munity Hall.
Cash prizes will be awarded at
three age levels, plus a "People's
Choice Award" determined by the au-
dience. Admission is free.

the Evergreen State" at 2 p.m. Satur-
day at the Mason County Historical
Society Museum, 427 W. Railroad

workshop on
The Mason County Master Gar-
Washington State Parks will show-
case proposed changes at Schafer
State Park at a pubic meeting from 6
to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the
second-floor meeting room at Monte-
sano City Hall, 112 N. Main St.
Park planners will talk about a
preliminary plan and proposed im-
provements for the park near Elma.

focuses on
avoiding scams
The Alderbrook Golf & Yacht Club
hosts a free forum on consumer pro-
tection from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at
the clubhouse at 330 E. Country Club
Drive E Union.
Elena G. Huizar, a consumer pro-
tection expert from the state Attorney
General's Office, will talk about com-
mon scams. She will answer general
questions from the audience, but can-
not provide individual legal advice or
specific complaint information.
