IN WASHINGTONI+ Nita Cleveland Bariekman died peace- fully in Shelton, WA at the age of 101. She is survived by Darryl (Peggy) Cleveland of Shelton, and a number of nieces and nephews: Kirby Cleveland (Al Pa- pas) of Olympia, Kristin Cleveland Metzelaar, Carol Jean Metzelaar and Doug Cleveland (Catherine Willis Cleve- land) of Seattle. Nita was born at home, Gill's Cove in Allyn, WA on November 10, 1917, to parents Lu and Frank Cleveland. She gradu- ated in 1936 from Irene S. Reed High Schoolin Shelton. Nita married her high school sweet- heart, Jim Bariekman in 1941. When Jim was sta- tioned in England during WWII, Nita worked as a teletype operator at the Puget Sound Navel Ship- yard in Bremerton. After the war, Nita worked at Cabin in the Fir on Railroad Avenue and in 1962 opened Nita's Kof- fee Shop. Famous for her pies, Nita's was featured m National Geographic Magazine as having the "best pies on the Olym- pic Peninsula." Nita was -the Grand Marshall of the Mason County Forest Festival in 2013. She was an avid shell and rock collector, and an enthu- siastic nurse to sick birds and cats. She was also known for her photogra- phy skills, with many of her photos displayed in her restaurant. A funeral is scheduled for 3:00 PM on Saturday, March 2, at St. David of Wales Episcopal Church in Shelton (324 West Cedar). The Rev. Don Maddux will officiate the ceremony. There will be a reception to follow in the church. All are wel- come to attend and cel- ebrate Nita's life. Dorothy Strait Dorothy Strait, 94, passed February 11, 2019, with her daughter, Barbara by her side at Washington Veteran's Home in Retsil, WA. She was born April 14, 1924 in Bellingham, WA. Dorothy was a very active member and started volunteering at Retsil in 1975. She was the VFW Auxiliary Hos- pital Chairman for 22 consecutive years. Dorothy is survived by her son, Alan Strait and daughter, Barbara Strait She is prede- ceased by her husband Raymond Strait. Doro- thy and Raymond moved from Manteca, CA to Hoodsport in 1973 and enjoyed life on the Hood Canal. They started the VFW Chapter in Hood- sport in 1983, and then moved it to the Shelton+ VFW Post 1694. Zackary Allen Fahrnkopf Zackary Allen Fah- rnkopf, 28, passed away on January 29, 2019, of a heroin overdose at Mary Washington Hospital in Virginia. Zack was born in Seattle, WA, April 3rd, 1990, but spent.his life in Shelton, WA. Zack loved being with his son and his family. He loved snowboarding, hiking, camping and loved playing his guitar. He was also an avid Se- attle Seahawks fan! He is survived by his son, Jaxson Fahrnkopf, age two; Mom and Dad, Joanne and Gary Lee- berg, Shelton. Brothers Joel Teague, and Josh Fahrnkopf (Virginia), Mi-i chael Leeberg, Shelton. Sisters, Jennifer Fhh- rnkopf, Yelm,WA, Renee Drogmund, Shelton, Ta- kara Teague.
