Ray spent four years in the Navy aboard
heavy cruisers between 1934 and
1938. serving aboard the U.S.S. Indianapolis
where he met President Roosevelt in 1936. He
graduated from the University of Washington
with Bachelor of Science in Mechanical
Engineering in 1943. He rejoined the Navy
and had a Specialist X rating during World
War II and was stationed in New York City.
Ray was Vice President and General Manager
Ray's family motto was "Leave It Better Than
You Found It". He did; in his life and with his
life. A memorial for Ray will be held in the
near future. Contributions should be made in
his name to the Olympic Community College,
Shelton Branch 937 W. Alpine Way. Shelton.

Winifred L. Paisley
Winifred L. (Travisl Pais-
ley, 90, died Sunday. Jan. 8.
at home in Olympia.
She was born Oct. 6.
1921. in Little Hocking,
Ohio, to Wesley and Bertha
(Bowerl Travis.
She married James R.
Paisley on July 23. 1945. in
San Diego.
She was employed in a
clerical and financial capac-
ity.
She enjoyed reading
mysteries, gardening and
was an active member with
Friends of the Library in
Shelton.
She is survived by her
son Robert Paisley (Bar-
bara) of Shelton; grandson
Colin Paisley of Seattle;
granddaughter Megan Pais-
ley of Lynnwood; sister Hel-
en Marshall of Woodstock
and niece Judie Brown of
Wichita, Kan.
She was preceded in
death by her parents and
husband.
Wendy Dawn Zirkle
Wendy Dawn Zirkle, 36,
died Wednesday, Feb. 1, in
her sleep at home.
She was born in Bremer-
~ton on
May 31,
1975, to
Gordon
and Dolo-
res Boock.
She
gradu-
ated from
North Ma-
Wendy son High
Zirkle School in
Belfair in
1993.
She enjoyed spending
time with her husband Jay
at their home in Belfair
and camping, fishing and
hunting. She also enjoyed
cheering for the Nebraska
Cornhuskers. The family
said her greatest accom-
plishment in life was the
birth of her son Justin.
She is survived by her
husband Jay; son Justin:
parents Gordon and Dolo-
res; niece MacKenzie: neph-
ew Nicky; sister Tammy
Klein (Chris); ex-husband
Rich; grandmothers Bar-
bara Wynn and Jeannette
Cooley; grandfather Max;
aunts, uncles, cousins and
many special friends.
A celebration of life will
be held at i p.m. on Feb. 25
at Belfair Assembly of God
Church in Belfair. There
will be a potluck reception
to follow.
Richard Allen Berry
Richard Allen Berry,
79, died Friday, Feb. 10, at
Providence St. Peter Hos-
pital in Olympia. He was a
resident of Shelton.
He was born Nov. 17,
1932 in Portland, Ore. to
William and Ruby (Down-
ing) Berry.
graduated
from Mr.
Led's Cos-
metology
School in
Tacoma.
He
served in
Richard the U.S.
Berry Army from
1951 to
1954 in
Korea. He joined the 82nd
Airborne, was wounded and
was a tank commander at
Heartbreak Ridge by his
18th birthday.
He married Dianne Mar-
cene Sells in Reno, Nev. on
Aug. 21, 1982. He was pre-
viously married to Donna
(Rhodes) Boatman. The
marriage ended in divorce.
He was a well-known cos-
metologist in the Olympia
area. He owned and operat-
ed several salons, including
Richard's Hair Design. He
worked with his son at Bel-
lus Salon Care in Olympia
at the time of his death. His
family said that he enjoyed
his work and the clients
that he had, some for more
than 50 years. His goal was
to work until he was 80.
He later became a pilot
as well as a flight instruc-
tor and enjoyed flying. He
also enjoyed deer and elk
hunting and fishing with
his sons. His family said
he was an avid reader,
liked to play cribbage and
enjoyed a good joke. He
enjoyed bird watching and
recently began to enjoy
photography. His family
said he loved his two dogs
Riley and Sophie.
He is survived by his wife
Dianne Berry of Shelton;
sons Richard Berry of Span-
away, Don Berry of Yelm
and Daniel Berry of Olym-
pia; step-daughter Johnna
Ziegler (Mark) of Shelton;
steps-sons Ormond Dodge
(Lori) of Shelton and Jason
Dodge (Kim Buffaloe) of
Shelton; five grandchildren
and two great-grandchil-
dren.
His parents preceded him
in death.
There will be a celebra-
tion of life at noon on Satur-
day, March 3, at Gloria Dei
Lutheran Church in Olym-
pia at 1515 Harrison Ave.
McComb Funeral Home
in Shelton is handling the
arrangements.
