Thir rm By DEAN SIEMON Mary M. Knight High School's boys basketball season ended on Monday after losing in the 1B Dis- trict IV third place game, at Montesano High School, to Taholah High School, 52-44. The Owls (7-9) trailed the Chitwins (16-6) 14-5 af- ter the first quarter. Mary M. Knight was only one out of 11 from the field with nine turnovers. In the first half, Mary M. Knight was two for 21 from the field. "Instead of squaring themselves [Owls] up, they [Taholah] were hurrying their shot," said Mary M. Knight head coach Tim Diggle. Mary M. Knight fell fur- ther behind in the third quarter, trailing 40-27, but outscored the Chitwins 17- 12 in the fourth quarter. The Owls won the re- bounding battle in the sec- ond half, 24-16, and created 13 turnovers in the second half. "We had them close to that point," Diggle said. "But they held their compo- sure." Junior Eric Johnson was the Owls' leading scorer with 18 points. The Owls lost their two previous meetings - Janu- ary 22 (57-51) and Febru- ary 1 (68-62). Diggle said he wanted to face the Chi- twins once last time. "I felt we could take them," he said. In the district tourna- ment's first round on Sat- urday, the Owls lost to Co- lumbia Adventist Academy (11-0) at Centralia High School, 79-53. The Owls were led by Johnson's 13 points. Sean Sexton had 12 points. Mary M. Knight gave up 22 points in the second quar- ter and 26 points in the fourth quarter. Diggle said the Owls should be a stronger team next season, after winning three more games than last season (4-14). "We improved leaps and bounds in the team aspect of basketball," Diggle said. "We had a pretty good sea- son overall." A GRIPPING STORY BY JOSEPH ZYGAR, ET. There are four simple measures of physical ca- pability that anyone can use to predict lifespan. They are: grip strength, the ability to walk at a decent pace, the ability to rise quickly from a chair, and the abil- ity to balance on one leg. Analy- sis of 28 observational studies led researchers to identify these four measures as predictors of lifespan. People who performed better on any of these four measures were found to live longer than those who did not. Most of the research involved individuals over the age of 70 years. While professionals may use these measures to gauge the need for intervention, any se- nior can use them to assess his or her own individual vitality status. As key members of the health care team, physical therapists are specially trained to improve move- ment, relieve pain, and restore or achieve optimal recovery. Treat- ment goals at our office are met through pain reduction, muscle re- education, join and soft tissue mo- bilization and improved range of motion and flexibility.
