"Surprise" aspect of the celebra- tion was accomplished with a bit of clever subterfuge by the hosts: they invited the Wells to dinner to celebrate Mr. Art Nicklaus' birthday and when they arrived and presented Art with a gift, the Wells were in turn presented an invitation to attend their own an- niversary party. An especially sen- timental aspect was added to the affair as the silver wedding cake was the first Russ and Ruth had cut together. Their mazTiage in Yuma, Ariz., Feb. 24, 1940 was an elopement. Adding an extra bit of excitement to the day was a phone call that evening from Ruth's brother, R. B. Thompson in Los Angeles, who extended his congratulations to the happy cou- ple. Our congratulations and best wishes, too, for many more anni- versaries in the future. The annua levening Junior High Basketball game held last Friday at the high school gym was a huge success and brought out sev- eral Grapeviewites. Walt Clayton lent his talents and lungs in the coaching depart- ment, Don Pogreba, Jr. served as team manager, Don Seiners took part in the half time "Kings X" game and Chief Clayton assisted in keeping statistics. The reknowned SVEA (Swed- ish) Male Chozxts presented a con- cert at Alderbrook Inn Saturday evening for the benefit of the Un-' ion Volunteer Fire Department. Attending from Grapeview and thoroughly enjoying the highly talented group were Mr. and Mrs. Orin Buckingham, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Okonek, Mrs. Ma.ude Rowe, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hatch, and :Harley Seiners and little Levi Dee with grandma ~rs. Bill Seiners, dropped in for a short visit. Meanwhile Harley gave his dad a helping h.and in the vineyards before taking his attractive little family back to their Mercer Island home. Grapeview Volunteer Fire De- )artment Ladies' Auxiliary met Wednesday evening at the school and announced plans for a game night to be held in March. Mem- bers were .also informed that the well driller had reached approx- imately 200 feet! South Kitsap Fire District No. 7 held an open house Monday for their brand new Yukon Harbor I by Firc ComL~issioner Wiley and !his wife along with their fire chief. They Were impressed by the practical coosLruction and general appearance of the building and enjoMed visiting while drinking coffee and eating cake and cook- ies. Mr. and Mrs. Don Pog~'eba and Mr. and Mrs. Art Zehe attended a dinner last Saturday evening at the newly xedecorated Shelton Hotel honoring Seattle-First Na- tional Bank Manager and his bride, Mr. and Mrs. Laurie Carlson who had just returned from a three-week vacation in Hawaii. St. David's Episcopal Young Churchmen president Chief Clay- The money is to be used to im- prove Camp Huston, an Episcopal summer camp. Tl~ey returned Sat- urday evening for the Shelton- Port Angeles basketball game. Commander Howard Seiners, USNR joined a gr~mp of Nawd Reserve officers flying to C~lifor- nia last Thursday on special duty. This group spent Friday touring the Naval Missle Center at Point Mugu. Howard spent Friday eve- ning in Los Angeles and on Satur- day thoroughly enjoyed the home- ward flight which followed the coast line of California and Ore- gon then cut across over Olympia, the islands of Puget Sound, Lake Washington and Mercer Island be- that the Walt Clayton's were faced with last Sunday morning when a. cute little shaggy black radical \vilh a white walrus-type mu~,d:ache and appealing demean- or called on them, liked them and stayed.
