Man guilty of assaulting mom
A Mason County Superior Court
jury convicted a Shelton man of
two felony offenses related to an
altercation with his mother last
summer.
Sentencing is set for Monday
for 28-year-old Isaac Abraham
Wittenberg, who was convicted of
assault in the third degree and
malicious mischief in the second
degree. A jury found his crimes to
be domestic violence against his
mother, Elizabeth "Betty" Witten-
berg.
Testimony began February 8
with Deputy Jim Morini of the
Mason County Sheriffs Office. He
said he responded on June 28 to
the report of a disturbance at 331
Johns Creek Drive, where Witten-
berg was living with his mother.
Morini said Ms. Wittenberg told
him her son had smashed a 48-inch
television set and a microwave
oven after they argued about his
friends. He said she told him her
son had grabbed the phone from
her when she tried to call 911 and
threw it at the TV. She also said
her son had broken out a window
in her vehicle.
THE DEPUTY said Ms. Wit-
tenberg told him she called for
help from law enforcement from a
neighbor's house and did not see
her son leave.
Morini also said Ms. Witten-
berg had sustained numerous
small cuts on her right arm from
the glass from the vehicle after her
son threw her down in the grass.
He said she told him a window
broke out of her vehicle as she and
her son were struggling with the
door. She said he was attempting
to leave in her vehicle and she had
tried to stop him. He said he took
a statement from Ms. Wittenberg
about an hour after the incident.
Isaac Wittenberg left the Johns
Creek Drive residence before dep-
uties arrived and was not arrested
until 11 days later on July 9, Mori-
ni said. •
Ms. Wittenberg took the stand
and said there was only minor
damage to the television set and it
was not worth repairing. She also
said her son did not throw her to
the ground as they were arguing
Page 28 - Shelton-Mason County Journal - Thursday, March 1, 2007
beside her car but that he gently
grabbed her by her shoulders and
she tripped "over my own feet" and
fell on the glass. She said her son
did not break out the window but
claimed it "just happened that the
window popped out" and shattered
on the ground.
DEPUTY PROSECUTOR Re-
inhold Schuetz provided Ms. Wit-
tenberg with a copy of her state-
ment to Morini which she had
signed under penalty of perjury.
"Isaac threw everything off the
counter in the kitchen," Ms. Wit-
tenberg read from her statement.
"When I picked up the phone,
Isaac ripped it from the wall."
She also admitted there was
name calling and profanity, but
said she was also swearing at her
son.
"I ran to the next-door neigh-
bor and called 911," Ms. Witten-
berg said, reading from her state-
ment. =Isaac tried to get into my
car and rip out the ignition." She
said her vehicle was a 1994 Suzuki
and that the window shattered

Man guilty of assaulting mom
A Mason County Superior Court
jury convicted a Shelton man of
two felony offenses related to an
altercation with his mother last
summer.
Sentencing is set for Monday
for 28-year-old Isaac Abraham
Wittenberg, who was convicted of
assault in the third degree and
malicious mischief in the second
degree. A jury found his crimes to
be domestic violence against his
mother, Elizabeth "Betty" Witten-
berg.
Testimony began February 8
with Deputy Jim Morini of the
Mason County Sheriffs Office. He
said he responded on June 28 to
the report of a disturbance at 331
Johns Creek Drive, where Witten-
berg was living with his mother.
Morini said Ms. Wittenberg told
him her son had smashed a 48-inch
television set and a microwave
oven after they argued about his
friends. He said she told him her
son had grabbed the phone from
her when she tried to call 911 and
threw it at the TV. She also said
her son had broken out a window
in her vehicle.
THE DEPUTY said Ms. Wit-
tenberg told him she called for
help from law enforcement from a
neighbor's house and did not see
her son leave.
Morini also said Ms. Witten-
berg had sustained numerous
small cuts on her right arm from
the glass from the vehicle after her
son threw her down in the grass.
He said she told him a window
broke out of her vehicle as she and
her son were struggling with the
door. She said he was attempting
to leave in her vehicle and she had
tried to stop him. He said he took
a statement from Ms. Wittenberg
about an hour after the incident.
Isaac Wittenberg left the Johns
Creek Drive residence before dep-
uties arrived and was not arrested
until 11 days later on July 9, Mori-
ni said. •
Ms. Wittenberg took the stand
and said there was only minor
damage to the television set and it
was not worth repairing. She also
said her son did not throw her to
the ground as they were arguing
Page 28 - Shelton-Mason County Journal - Thursday, March 1, 2007
beside her car but that he gently
grabbed her by her shoulders and
she tripped "over my own feet" and
fell on the glass. She said her son
did not break out the window but
claimed it "just happened that the
window popped out" and shattered
on the ground.
DEPUTY PROSECUTOR Re-
inhold Schuetz provided Ms. Wit-
tenberg with a copy of her state-
ment to Morini which she had
signed under penalty of perjury.
"Isaac threw everything off the
counter in the kitchen," Ms. Wit-
tenberg read from her statement.
"When I picked up the phone,
Isaac ripped it from the wall."
She also admitted there was
name calling and profanity, but
said she was also swearing at her
son.
"I ran to the next-door neigh-
bor and called 911," Ms. Witten-
berg said, reading from her state-
ment. =Isaac tried to get into my
car and rip out the ignition." She
said her vehicle was a 1994 Suzuki
and that the window shattered
