City will offer spring recreation programs
Shelton Parks and Recreation
spring programs are open now for
enrollment, the city's park-rec su-
pervisor, Mark Zieg[er, announced
this week.
First up is a 12-week series of'
T'ai Chi classes. The ongoing se-
ries runs from March 6 through
May 22. Fee ['or the 12 weeks of
instruction is $75. The class meets
from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays
at the Shelton Civic Center, 525
West Cota Street.
"The gentle and rhythmic move-
ments of T'ai Chi increase the cir-
culation of blood, stretch the ten-
dons and tone the muscles," says
Ziegler. "The state of relaxation
fostered by T'ai Chi helps balance
the nervous system, providing
physiological benelits that can be
felt by young and old alike."
Beginning yoga classes to
strengthen and relax body and
mind will start March 13 and run
through May 1, and ongoing yoga
instruction for both beginners and
returnees will be offered Tuesdays
at l0 a.m. and Thursdays at 11:30
a.m.
Beginning and intermediate
drawing classes fi)r youth run
from 5 to 6 p.m. and for adults
from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. on Thurs-
days from April 12 to May 3, while
introductory classes in watercolor
painting for youth and acrylics for
adults will be offered Wednesdays
from April 11 to May 2.
A series of three massage class-
es, one introductory session and
two continuing classes, will be
taught by licensed massage prac-
titioner Kris Rose. Participants
are advised to bring a partner.
The city will offer a teen trip
for youth aged 12 to 16 to the Mu-
seum of" Glass in Tacoma on April
5 and a one-morning class on cre-
ating a spring bouquet with local
floral designer Debbie Hurst on
April 21.
