Knight boys' basketball season ended sooner than the team wanted last week. On Friday, Feb. 24, the Knight Owls lost 51-42 to Mt. Rainfer Lutheran at the Regional 1B Boys' Basketball Tournament at Timberline High School in Lacey. "The first half, we were feeling them out and trying to get into our game," head coach Tim Diggle said. "The guys were maybe a little overconfident." The Knight Owls played close to Mt. Rainier Lutheran in the first quarter, up 8-6 headed into the second. MMK then pulled ahead in the second, outscoring Mt. Rainier Lutheran 19-14 for a 27-20 lead going into halftime. The second half of the game was a different story for the Knight Owls. In the third and fourth quarters, Mt. Rainier Luther- an outscored MMK 15-7 and 16-8, respectively, to pull ahead for the win. "Their 1-3-1 defense fouled us luite a bit and we didn't make the right adjustments," Diggle said. "We kept throwing up the long ball instead of going inside: We didn't have patience." Senior Sean Sexton led the team with 13 points and 11 rebounds while FRIDAY: senior Eric Johnson scored nine M~Bain~~l points. MaryM. Knight42 Junior Cory O'Neil put up six points and grabbed four steals and six rebounds while junior Kyle Willey snatched eight rebounds and passed out six assists. "The game went okay," Willey said. "We made too many small mistakes that came around to bite us." Willey said the team handled the pressure of being in regionals against an unknown team well but that it stopped rebounding and struggled in the second half. After the game, Sexton was presented with the sports- manship award for how he conducted himself during games all season. Diggle said the team had a great run this season. "We did a lot of things people didn't think we were capable of," he added. "They played hard." Willey said he thinks the team will change some things around for next season. "We'll come back if I have anything to do with it," he promised. All you can eat... Saturday, March 10 3:30 to 7pm Harstine Island Community Hall 3371 E. Harstine Island Road N.
