Ginny Satterlee helps to build home
In 1963 Virginia and Frank
Satterlee of Seattle purchased
Mason Lake property and began
the building of their home.
"We worked on weekends,"
Ginny reminisces. "We did every
bit of the work ourselves except
for the wiring and the fireplaces.
"Frank did most of it," she
adds, "but I spackled and papered
both the kitchen and the bath and
I worked on the •rest of the
project as an assistant."
Born on Bainbridge Island,
Ginny was reared, educated and
married in Seattle. Five years ago
the couple moved into their
Mason Lake home as permanent
residents.
In Seattle Virginia Satterlee
was employed for 12 years as a
waitress in France's Hidden
Harbor Restaurant on Lake
Union. She later worked for three
years at Alderbrook Inn.
"I don't want to work too
many hours a day now," she
states, "but I do like to keep
busy. So I work the luncheon
shift at Mac's Corner Tavern."
Her hobbies include
crocheting, and she has recently
completed an afghan with
three-dimensional roses against an
ivory.colored background. She
and her husband are square
dancers and former members of
Salty Sashayers.
Virginia is skilled in ceramic
work. A wall plaque featuring
three owls with electric lighted
eyes won for her a blue ribbon
at a Seattle ceramics show. Her
kitchen is decorated with ceramic
figurines, a ceramic clock and an
ornate ceramic cannister set.
Ginny loves flowers and finds
recreation in all outdoor
activities, especially fishing,
camping, boating and waterskiing.
She has worked with her husband
to landscape their Mason Lake
premises.
"Eleven tons of rock have
gone into the rockery so far," she
says, "and there's still more to
do!"
Virginia enjoys her home, and
has many guests.
"I come from a big family,"
she explains. "I have five sisters
and one brother and they all have
children, and they all come to
visit. Once I was stepping over
nine kids in sleeping bags on the
living room floor!"
Mrs. Satterlee also has a son,
James. He and his wife own and
operate the T and O Restaurant in
Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
Ginny and Frank Satterlee are
fond of dogs. Their large
miniature apricot-colored poodle
is called "Pandy." The German
shepherd answers to "Lady," and
her pup is named "Sparky.'"
"I like to cook," says
Virginia. "I learned by watching
my mother, and her specialty was
soup.
"After I was married," she
laughs, "my husband taught me
to fry steaks and make spaghetti
sauce!"
Her special muffin recipe
makes a quantity of batter that
may be stored in the refrigerator
for as long as six weeks.
"It's a real boon to the
woman who works outside her
home," Ginny explains. "Hot,
freshly baked muffins can be
ready in a few minutes."
She makes beer bread from
pancake mix.
"Just add a bottle of beer to
three cups of the mix," she says,
"and bake at 350 degrees for 50
minutes."
