Permanent baskets €,l ] d to
Shelton Springs dis,: g )If course
By DEAN SIEMON
The Mason County Disc Golf Associa-
tion has now added 18 professional stan-
dard disc golf baskets on their Shelton
Springs course in Shelton.
On Saturday, a group of volunteers
worked on placing the new baskets
throughout the course that stretches out
in the fields alongside Wallace-Knee-
land Boulevard and intertwines with
the woods near the Huff n' Puff Trail.
"We just bought 18 baskets and we
had to pull all those temporary pins on
the ground and installed permanent
ones," said Chris Auseth, MCDGA vice

president.
The construction of the course began
in January 2010 with help from the City
of Shelton. Temporary posts at each
of the holes were placed at each of the
18 holes. During MCDGA tournament
events, there were borrowed baskets
used in addition to the eight previously
owned by the MCDGA.
"We had a bunch of the portable bas-
kets," Auseth said. "We would borrow
a bunch from other members at each
event to make 18."
The new baskets, paid for by MCDGA
through donations and sponsorships
,from local companies.
"Now, the public can go out there at
their leisure and play on tournament
sanctioned targets instead of just the
temporary polls," Auseth said.
Auseth said the next couple of steps to
continue improving the Shelton Springs
course is to pour concrete at each of the
holes for tee boxes, which marks the be-
ginning of each hole.
"Some people have donated money to
be hole sponsors," Auseth said.
There is also hope for an information
booth set up near the beginning of the
course which will provide beginner discs
for casual beginners.
"Then it will be a full-blown, tourna-
ment ready disc golf course," Auseth
said.
In other news about the MCDGA,
there will be no season series like last
year - a decision made by the MCDGA
committee.
"It took so much time to run it last
year and it didn't allow us to play in
tournaments around the area " Auseth
said.
But the group is in talks about ran-
dom doubles each week, while there are
no confirmed days.
"We're shooting for around April to
start the random doubles," Auseth said.
"The time is probably going to hover
around 4:30 to 5."
