It seemed like a good idea
when we signed up, last fall, for a
retreat in Santa Barbara in late
February.
We didn't realize how good an
idea it was until we'd been
through eighty-some consecutive
days of rain. We emerged blink-
ing from our plane into Southern
California sunshine like moles
out of their burrows, bewildered
by the brilliance of it.
"It's going to rain Friday," the
man at the car rental office told
us when we picked up our vehicle
Wednesday.
Early Thursday morning some
clouds rolled in over the Santa
Barbara hills. After breakfast, for
a few moments, there was the
lightest of mists before the clouds
lifted. Friday dawned clear and
blue.

ing a family dinner. Karen Roberts married Ron
Twiss on March 2, 1974 in Port Orchard. The couple
purchased property in the Skokomish Valley in
1988 where they vacationed every summer until
1994 when they built a home and relocated. He re-
tired from the Air Force in 1994 and is now a con-
tractor for his business, TORO Enterprises. She is
employed by Hood Canal School after working in
the banking industry and with children for many
years. During his 20-year military career, the cou-
ple lived at McChord Air Force Base, Kadena AFB
on Okinawa, Japan, Altus AFB in Oklahoma, Yoko-
ta AFB in Japan, Sembach AFB in Germany and
Kirtland AFB in New Mexico. Their family in-
cludes Rachelle Marie Twiss Steinbeck and her
husband, Jeffrey Steinbeck, of McChord AFB and
Janelle Ranae Twiss of Shelton. They have one
grandson, 7-month-old Randle Joseph Steinbeck
whom they enjoy spoiling. The Twisses also enjoy
gardening and spending time together. This sum-
mer the couple will mark 25 years of marriage
with an Alaskan cruise.

The Adopt-a-Pet shop, which
has been receiving donations of
used items for sale on Mondays
and Tuesdays, will open its doors
on Tuesdays only through the be-
ginning of May.
The monthly sales will contin-
ue, however, and the shop will be
open for contributions of good
used household items and clean
clothes from 9 a.m. to noon each
Tuesday at 210 West Grove
Street.
The sales help the organization
purchase kennel and food sup-
plies for the pets it houses while
it seeks homes for the animals.

It seemed like a good idea
when we signed up, last fall, for a
retreat in Santa Barbara in late
February.
We didn't realize how good an
idea it was until we'd been
through eighty-some consecutive
days of rain. We emerged blink-
ing from our plane into Southern
California sunshine like moles
out of their burrows, bewildered
by the brilliance of it.
"It's going to rain Friday," the
man at the car rental office told
us when we picked up our vehicle
Wednesday.
Early Thursday morning some
clouds rolled in over the Santa
Barbara hills. After breakfast, for
a few moments, there was the
lightest of mists before the clouds
lifted. Friday dawned clear and
blue.

Twisses mark 25 years
RON AND KAREN TWISS of the Skokomish Valley
celebrated their silver wedding March 2 by spend.
ing the day with their children at home and hav.
ing a family dinner. Karen Roberts married Ron
Twiss on March 2, 1974 in Port Orchard. The couple
purchased property in the Skokomish Valley in
1988 where they vacationed every summer until
1994 when they built a home and relocated. He re-
tired from the Air Force in 1994 and is now a con-
tractor for his business, TORO Enterprises. She is
employed by Hood Canal School after working in
the banking industry and with children for many
years. During his 20-year military career, the cou-
ple lived at McChord Air Force Base, Kadena AFB
on Okinawa, Japan, Altus AFB in Oklahoma, Yoko-
ta AFB in Japan, Sembach AFB in Germany and
Kirtland AFB in New Mexico. Their family in-
cludes Rachelle Marie Twiss Steinbeck and her
husband, Jeffrey Steinbeck, of McChord AFB and
Janelle Ranae Twiss of Shelton. They have one
grandson, 7-month-old Randle Joseph Steinbeck
whom they enjoy spoiling. The Twisses also enjoy
gardening and spending time together. This sum-
mer the couple will mark 25 years of marriage
with an Alaskan cruise.

vehicle that afternoon. "Washington."
"It rained yesterday;:he said. O he said knowingly. "Well,
"In the morning." that was California rain."

"I just wish 1 could free up some SPACE
around here. I'm TIRED of all these old
THINGS!"
Maybe It's time to do something positive.
Clean out that attic. Donate useful items from
the closet or garage. Part with an old collection
or antique. Go ahead, you can do it.
You see, when you donate Items to Trea-
sures, your hometown hospital benefits. That is
definitely something positive, a fact you can
feel good about.
We will give you donation receipts for tax
purposes on request, and you can call to ar-
range pick-up of larger items.
