It seemed like a good idea when we signed up, last fall, for a retreat in Santa Barbara in late February. We didn't realize how good an idea it was until we'd been through eighty-some consecutive days of rain. We emerged blink- ing from our plane into Southern California sunshine like moles out of their burrows, bewildered by the brilliance of it. "It's going to rain Friday," the man at the car rental office told us when we picked up our vehicle Wednesday. Early Thursday morning some clouds rolled in over the Santa Barbara hills. After breakfast, for a few moments, there was the lightest of mists before the clouds lifted. Friday dawned clear and blue. ...Just got better! FREE UPGRADES INCLUDE: [' G,E.
