Floyd W. Graves
Floyd W. Graves
Floyd W. "Dec" Graves, a Shel-
ton resident for 56 years, died of a
heart-related illness Tuesday,
February 23, at Fir Lane Health
and Rehabilitation Center in
Shelton. He was 84.
He was born December 12,
1914, in Norman, Arkansas, to
Henry and Viola Graves.
He married Velma Simpson on
June 29, 1940. They were mar-
tied 58 years.
Mr. Graves worked for Simp-
son Timber Company for 32 years
in maintenance. After he retired
from Simpson, he worked as a
guard at ITT Rayonier in Shelton.
He enjoyed boating, fishing,
sports and cutting wood with his
sons. He also loved to mow his
neighbors' lawns.
He was a gentle man who loved
a good practical joke, his family
said. He collected unique hats
and loved to spend time with his
dog, "Sassy," and his grandchil-
dren, whom he called 'TCormies."
He is survived by his wife, Vel-
ma Graves of Shelton; sons Ray
Graves, Dean Graves and Dennis
Graves, all of Shelton; 16 grand-
children and 11 great-grandchil-
dren.
A memorial service will be held
at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 6, at
the Assembly of God Church in
Shelton. All friends are invited.
Following the service, a potluck
meal will be held in remembrance
and celebration of his life.
Eleanor Buechel
Eleanor Frances Buechel, a
resident of Mason County for 80
years, died of natural causes Sat-
urday, February 27, at Provi-
dence Saint Peter Hospital in
Olympia. She was 89.
She was born May 22, 1909, in
Steilacoom to Arcade and May
Elizabeth (Rigney) Cardinal.
She married Richard J.
Buechel in May of 1940 at Saint
Edward's Catholic Church in
Shelton. He preceded her in
death.
She was co-owner of the Dick
Buechel Garage in Union from
1943 to the mid-1970s. She was
also past owner and board mem-
ber of Hood Canal Telephone
Company from 1957 until her
death.
Mrs. Buechel was a member of
Saint Edward's Catholic Church,
Hood Canal Lions Club, Zonta
Club, Hood Canal Improvement
Club, the Union Birthday Club
and the Daughters of the
Pioneers in Shelton, a branch of
the organization that was started
by her mother.
She enjoyed working, her fami-
ly, going for drives, quilting, knit-
Ling, handicrafts, crocheting and
being involved with the communi-
ty.
She is survived by her son,
Rick Buechel of Union; her
laughters Mary Buechel of Union
and Margaret Buechel of Vashon
Island; 10 grandchildren; and five
peat-grandchildren.
A funeral mass was held Tues-
lay, March 2, at Saint Edward's
3atholic Church in Shelton, with
:he reading of a rosary preceding
.t on Monday evening. A private
amily inurnment will be at Shel-
;on Memorial Park.

Moria McKasson
Moria McKasson
Longtime Hoodsport resident
Moria Wilson McKasson died of
pneumonia after a six-week ill-
ness Sunday, February 28, at
Saint Peter Hospital in Olympia.
She was 40.
She was born October 1, 1958,
in Seattle.
She worked as a traffic con-
troller with utility companies,
Ms. McKasson also worked
previously as a cook, dishwasher
and waitress at Hoodsport Ma-
rina and Cafe. For a time she was
employed at The Journal as a
stuffer assembling the paper on
production nights. She also did
fill-in work at the Hoodsport Win-
ery, caned furniture and did
chair-seat repair.
She was an active member of
Hood Canal Community Church,
where she was baptized several
years ago, and served as a greet-
er. She was a member of the
board and a volunteer at the
Hood Canal Food Bank, serving
as second vice-president. "She
helped the people in flooded areas
and encouraged those who per-
haps would never come to the
food bank for help," said Ed Bout-
well, the food bank director.
"Moria's favorite thing to do was
food bank 'emergencies.' She
loved to meet individual needs on
a one-to-one basis."
With a friend, JoAnne Girald-
es, she founded and helped facili-
tate a support group for women.
She served on the Mason County
Emergency Food and Shelter
Board as a link to street people.
She is survived by daughter
Matia Rankin of Olympia; sons
Mitchell McKasson of Hoodsport
and Adam Sadik of Cairo, Egypt;
mother Fanita Brandeis of Los
Angeles, California; brother Eric
Wilson of Seattle; sister Hilde
Wilson of San Francisco, Califor-
nia; and extended-family mem-
bers Bill and Jean McKasson of
Lilliwaup, Bill McKasson Jr. of
Lilliwaup, and Thurman and Ju-
lia McKesson Rankin of Olympia.
A memorial service will be held
at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 6, at
Hood Canal Community Church
in Hoodsport. Pastor Jack Keith
will officiate.

Ivy Makaila Wood
Ivy Makaila Wood died of
smoke inhalation from a house
fire Monday, February 22, at her
Shelton area home. She was 4.
She was born October 30, 1994,
in Seattle to Richard and Paula
(Pollock) Wood.
She attended daycare in Shel-
ton. She enjoyed reading, art,
computers, boxing, gardening, all
sports, animals and the outdoors.
She is survived by her parents,
Rick and Paula Wood of Shelton;
sisters Melanie Wood and Melissa
Wood of Shelton; grandparents
Dan and Barbara Wadsworth of
Grapeview, and Harley and Joy
Pollock of Shelton; paternal
great-grandparents Molly and
John Kuglar of Seattle, and pa-
ternal great-grandmother Marjor-
ie Wood of Massachusetts; and by
her infant nephew, Gabriel Wood
of Shelton.
A memorial service will be held

Charles L. Depoe
Charles Leland Depoe, a form-
er Shelton resident, died Sunday,
February 28, in Astoria, Oregon
at the age of 65.
He was born August 8, 1933, in
Davenport to Theodore and Ger-
trude (Walton) Depoe. He attend-
ed schools in Shelton.
He married Charlene Bacon on
August 3, 1953, in Shelton. She
preceded him in death.
Mr. Depoe served in the Navy
from October 1951 through Sep-
tember 1955.
He lived in Shelton for several
years before moving to Warren-
ton, Oregon, in 1965. He worked
in construction, later becoming a
foreman, and was involved in con-
struction in various areas
throughout the Northwest. One of
the projects he worked on was the
Megler-Astoria Briflge.
He lived in Aberdeen frpra
1977 to 1983, the'/nove' t9
South Bend, where he resided un-
til 1991. He then moved to Gear-
hart, Oregon, then back to War-
renton.
He was a member of Astoria
American Legion Post 12, Astoria
Moose Lodge and an honorary
member of a local labor union.
He enjoyed spending time with
his family, hunting elk and deer
and being in the outdoors.
He is survived by daughters
Kathy Lugibihl of Gearhart, Ore-
gon, and Sheryl Gonzalez of Long-
view; sons Steven Depot and
Charles Depot Jr., both of South
Bend; brothers Ralph Depot, Da-
vid Depot and Don Depot, all of
Shelton; sisters Marilyn Thomp-
son of Seattle and Doris Derrick
of Matlock; 10 grandchildren; and
four great-grandchildren.

Gordon Dundas and Adele Dundas
Shelton residents Gordon M.
Dundas, 92, and Adele R. Dun-
das, 84, died within two days of
each other in Shelton.
Mr. Dundas died of natural
causes Sunday, February 21,.at
Fir Lane Health and Rehabilita-
tion Center in Shelton.
His wife died of natural causes
Tuesday, February 23, at Mason
General Hospital.
Mr. Dundas was born March
15, 1906, in Saint Andrews Town-
ship, North Dakota, to James and
Margaret Dundas.
Mrs. Dundas was born July 13,
1914, in Argyle, Minnesota to Ar-
chit and Josephine Poitras.
They were married on Septem-
ber I0, 1933, in Argyle, Minneso-
ta. They moved to Port Orchard
in 1951.
Mr. Dundas retired from Puget
Sound Naval Shipyard in 1972,
and he and Mrs. Dundas moved
to Shelton.
Mr. Dundas enjoyed gardening
and woodworking. Mrs. Dundas
Robert Croxton
Robert L. "Red" Croxton, a res-
ident of Hoodsport for 21 years,

He was born November 3,
1913, in Nocona, Texas, to Troy T.
and Myra (Cox) Croxton.
At age 15, he :joined the Navy
and served on a submarine for
four years.
He married: June C. (Price)
Croxton on August 2, 1942, in
Seattle. Previously, he was mar-
ried to Margaret Heller in Lewis-
town, Montana.
In 1943, the Croxtons moved to
Alaska where he worked as a
journeyman electrician on the
DEW (distant early warning) and
Alice lines. He also worked on the
Alaska pipeline project before he
retired in 1978 and he and Mrs.
Croxton moved to Hood Canal.
He was a member of the Inter-
national Brotherhood of Electrical
Workers in Alaska and the Elks
Lodge in Tacoma.
He enjoyed crabbing, shrimp-
ing and playing golf. He also en-
joyed his boats and being near the
water.
He was a very gentle, kind and
generous man, his family said,
adding that he never met a per-
son he didn't like.
enjoyed knitting, sewing and her
many friends at the Mason Coun-
ty Senior Activities Center.
They were devoted to each
other and to their children,
grandchildren and great-grand-
children. They were very gen-
erous, with many acts of support
for all of their family members,
their family said.
They are survived by daugh-
ters Mary Critton of Pinehurst,
North Carolina and Grace Kent of
Shelton; son Graham "Butch"
Dundas of Shelton; six grandchil-
dren and eight great-grandchil-
dren.

joyed his boats and being near the
water.
He was a very gentle, kind and
generous man, his family said,
adding that he never met a per-
son he didn't like.

ty Senior Activities Center.
They were devoted to each
other and to their children,
grandchildren and great-grand-
children. They were very gen-
erous, with many acts of support
for all of their family members,
their family said.
They are survived by daugh-
ters Mary Critton of Pinehurst,
North Carolina and Grace Kent of
Shelton; son Graham "Butch"
Dundas of Shelton; six grandchil-
dren and eight great-grandchil-
dren.

were held Monday, March 1, at
the Hood Canal Community
Church in Hoodsport. Burial was
at Forest Lawn Cemetery in
Bremerton following the service.

David A. Givens
David Alfred "Grumpa" Givens,
a Shelton resident for 25 years
and Mason County's first building
inspector, died of pulmonary em-
bolism angina Friday, February
26, at Mason General Hospital.
He was 63.
He was born April 23, 1935, in
Centralia to William and Amanda
(Smith) Givens.
He married Ellen (Zimbra) Ha-
milton on April 6, 1959, in Cheha-
lis.
