• THE HOOD Canal Commu-
nity Club will hold its monthly
potluck luncheon at noon Thurs-
day, March 18, at the clubhouse
in Potlatch. Mason County Sheriff
Steve Whybark and Bill Bruder,
an advisory committee member,
will talk about the the Mason
County DUI Traffic Safety Task
Force program and traffic safety
issues.
The speakers will cover bicycle
safety, new DUI (driving under
the influence) laws, pedestrian
safety, and seatbelt and child-re-
straint laws. All men and women
in the community are invited to
these monthly meetings.
The community club will hold a
rummage and bake sale on Satur-
day, May 15, at the clubhouse.
• THE COMMUNITY has
been saddened by the death of
Hoodsport resident Moriah Mc-
Kasson at Saint Peter Hospital
Sunday evening, February 28.
Moriah died after more than a
month's fight for her life. Her
sunny smile will be missed by all
who knew her.

last Saturday at Hood Canal School. Hood Canal host-
ed close to 150 children from schools around the coun-
ty. The 250 parents, students and siblings who attend-

Pioneer School
seeks donations
of paperbacks
A used paperback book drive is
slated next week at Pioneer
Intermediate/Middle School.
The school is trying to increase
the number of books available for
its new Accelerated Reader Pro-
gram. Circulation in the school li-
brary is almost double the figure
for this time last year.
Any new or used books in read-
able condition are sought, except
for Harlequin-type romances,
which are not wanted. The school
is looking for the works of many
popular authors such as John
Grisham and Mary Higgins
Clark, as well as any classics or
science fiction books.
Books may be dropped off at
the school office from 8 a.m. to 3
p.m. Monday, March 8, through
Friday, March 12.
