Rob Davies is the acting postmaster at the Shelton Post Office. He replaces Dawn Lui, who was transferred to another branch. Journal photo Gordon Weeks New acting postmaster in Shelton By Gordon Weeks gordon@masoncounty. com Rob Davies, who has worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 13 years, is the new acting postmaster in Shelton. Davies replaces Dawn Lui, who was transferred to another office, said Er- nie Swanson, the spokesperson for the USPS in Washington and Oregon. Davies was born and raised in Fife, and graduated} from Fife High School in 1990. After working odd jobs, he en- listed in the U.S. Air Force in 1995 and was stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane. After completing his four-year stint, he attended the Uni— versity of Washington. After the attacks of 9/11, Davies signed up for another two years with the Air Force and was stationed at Moody Air Force Base near Valdosta, Georgia. He then worked as an insur- ance agent. v The U.S. Postal Service hired Da- vies in 2007. He worked as a part-time flexible carrier in the Proctor district in Tacoma before becoming a full—time carrier in University Place, Lakewood and Tacoma. “I liked the freedom,” he said. “You’re not in the office environment — you’re in the elements.” The biggest challenge “is when the house is not marked, and the mail box is not marked, making sure the mail is delivered to the right house,” Davies said. After working for a couple of years as a fill-in supervisor while still work- ing as a carrier, Davies was named the full-time supervisor in Fife in 2011 and then Spanaway in 2016. He trans- ferred to Shelton in June 2018. “I wanted to be out of the hustle and bustle of Tacoma and Seattle,” he said. Davies commutes to his job from Ta- coma, “an hour on a good day.” When the oldest of his two daughters gradu- ates from Spanaway High School, he plans to find a home in the Shelton area. The Shelton Post Office handles of the mail bearing Shelton and Matlock ZIP codes, and has 48 employees.
