fastpitch

AfLer nine seniors gradu-
ated last year, the Shelton
fastpitch team is rebuilding
this season.
Head coach Kim Goldsby
said the team has a lot of
youth, with three returning
seniors.
"We have 16 sophomores
among the three teams,
three seniors, four juniors
and the rest are freshmen,"
Goldsby said. "Neither of the
pitchers we have has varsity
experience."
Seniors Kylie Schnitzer
and Jordanne Krumpols re-
turn this season along with
Kelsey Holloway. Holloway
suffered a concussion dur-
ing basketball season, how-
ever, and is not yet cleared
to play.
The team has two soph-
omore pitchers, Morgan
Mitchell and Nicole Chris-
tensen, and two freshmen
pitchers, Allie Simon and
Kennedy O'Connor.
Goldsby named
Krumpols, Schnitzer, Cassie
Crabtree, Kelsey Albaugh
and Lynae Brown as players
to watch.
"They are all returners,"
Goldsby said. "I could put
Brown at any position on the
field."
So far this season, the
Lady Highclimbers have ex-
hibited awesome attitudes,
Goldsby said.
"We've been kind of un-
conventional this year, we
broke everything down and
worked on defense," she
said. "Their mental atti-
tudes so far are good and we
have a lot of girls that are
just good athletes."
The weaknesses of the
team this season are its
youth and inexperience.
"We're going against
teams that have all of their
players doing select ball,"
Goldsby said. 'Tee have to
get our community on board
with youth programs to im-
prove."
She said the team has a
great group of parents sup-
porting it.
The team's first game is
set for 4p.m. on Monday,
March 12, home against
Spanaway at Mascon Coun-
try Recreation Area (MCRA).
