He said several of the players
on the team this spring have never
played tennis before but have played
in other sports, so the team is inexpe-
rienced this season.
The attitude shown by the girls
is the strength of the team, Gagnon
said.
"We've been practicing in the rain
and they don't complain," he said.
With so many players on the team
this season, Gagnon said he is con-
cerned the girls won't get to practice
as much as other teams because of the
courts. Shelton has five courts, where-
as several of the Narrows League
teams have six courts.
The team's first home match is
set for 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 20,
against Capital.

Head coach says team has
more depth this year
By EMILY HANSON

With no semors on the Shelton boys' golf team this sea-
son, a group of juniors will be leading the Highclimbers.
Head coachiMark Jensen said the team of 15 golfers
is stacked with experienced juniors as well as one sopho-
more.
"I think we'll have as good a total team as I've had,"
Jensen said. "We have the potential to have many good
individual players this year."
After taking fourth in the 4A Narrows League last
season, four juniors -- Alec Martinson, Colton Gott, Zach
gol
Lund and Marcus Browning -- have returned with sopho-
more Grant Cation.
"All five of them are returning letter winners," Jensen
said.
He said those five boys will provide the team with more
depth than it had last season.
"Our depth is definitely a strenth and I think there's a
good possibility &two or three kids going to state," Jensen
said.
At this point, he said it's difficult to say what the team's
weaknesses are, though he added he needs to find a golfer
for the sixth varsity position.
"I'm looking forward to this season," Jensen said. "We
won the Duke Streeter Invite in Port Angeles last year;
we'll hopefully do it again this year because the kids said
they want to win it four years in a row."
The team's first match is set for 2:45 p.m., Thursday,
March 15, at home against Olympic at Alderbrook Golf
Course.
