Roy man charged
after Potlatch
State Park arrest
Danny R. Taylor pleaded not guilty
to three criminal charges'Monday
in Mason County Superior Court in
Shelton following his Feb. 24 arrest
by Washington State Patrol personnel
at Potlatch State Park.
During the 50-year-old Roy man’s
arraignment hearing, prosecutors
charged Taylor with reckless endan-
germent, discharge of a firearm or
weapon in a public place and third-
degree malicious
mischief. Taylor ap-
peared in custody of
Mason County Jail,
Where he remained
as of Tuesday morn-
ings in—custody
report.
A WSP arrest-
ing agency affidavit
states a trooper
was called about
9:40 pm. Feb. 24 to
Potlatch State Park after a report of a
man firing multiple rounds. According
to the report, after hearing several
more shots fired after law enforce-
ment’s arrival, back-up units were
called to assist.
The report says that about 9:50
p.m., the suspect, later identified as
Taylor, began to approach law en-

forcement with an unidentified hand- ‘
gun in his right hand. Taylor report-
edly initially ignored commands to
drop the gun and placed both hands
on his head while approaching officers
before placing the gun on the ground
and surrendering to authorities.
The WSP report adds that investi-
gators discovered several bullet holes
in the side of a trailer and multiple
bullet casings in the area.
Taylor reportedly told investigators
he was told by “officers to shoot at
other officers from inside the trailer.”
Further details of the weapon re-
portedly involved were unavailable
as of the Shelton-Mason County Jour-
nal’s print deadline.
Taylor is next scheduled to appear
March 30 for an omnibus hearing
prior to his April 13 pretrial manage-
ment hearing. Taylor’s jury trial is
slated to start the week of April 28.
If convicted, Taylor faces up to 364
days in jail and/or a $5,000 fine for
each of his criminal charges.
Not guilty plea
to vehicle theft,
robbery charges
Authorities formally charged a
Shelton man with no permanent ad-
dress with second-degree robbery and
theft of a motor vehicle during an ar-
raignment hearing Monday in Mason
County Superior Court.
Christopher D. Ornellas pleaded
not guilty to the charges before Judge
‘Amber Finlay scheduled the 35-year-
old for a jury trial beginning the week
of April 28. Ornellas, who appeared
in court Monday incustody of Mason
County Jail, is next scheduled to ap- ‘
pear for a March.30 omnibus hearing.
Ornellas remained in the Shelton
detention facility as of Tuesday morn-
ing’s in—custody report.
Shelton Police
Department officers
arrested Ornellas on
Feb. 23 in the 4000
block of Brockdale
Road in Shelton
after Ornellas al-
legedly attempted
to steal a television
and other items
valued at more
than $350 two days
earlier from the Shelton Walmart on
Ornellas
.East Wallace Kneeland Boulevard.
According to a Shelton police report,
Walmart employees attempted to stop
Ornellas in the store, but stepped
aside after Ornellas allegedly threat-
ened physical violence.
Ornellas reportedly drove from the
area in a stolen 1994 Toyota Camry.
Officers arrested Ornellas two days
later on Brockdale Road, though de-
tails of Ornellas’ apprehension were
not included in the probable cause
affidavit.
If convicted, Ornellas faces up to 10
years’ imprisonment and/or a $20,000
fine for each of his charges.
Man arraigned
on eluding charge
Robert Michael Fisher entered a
not guilty plea during his arraign-
ment hearing Monday in Mason
County Superior Court on a charge of
attempting to elude a pursuing law
enforcement vehicle.
Judge Amber Finlay accepted
Fisher plea, then scheduled him for '
an April 13 omnibus hearing, a May
11 pretrial manage-
ment hearing and a
jury trial beginning
the week of May 26.
On Feb. 27,
Fisher reportedly
.. led law enforcement
on a chase through
Shelton residential
neighborhoods be-
fore fleeing on foot
and surrendering to

authorities.
According to a Shelton Police De-
partment affidavit of probable cause,
Fisher was operating an unidentified
off-road vehicle unsafely in the area
of North 13th Street and Northcliff
Road in Shelton. When an officer in
a patrol vehicle activated lights in an
attempt to pull Fisher over, Fisher
reportedly accelerated away, travel-
ing at speeds of up to 40 mph. Fisher
then allegedly drove off the road near
the intersection of Northclifl‘ and
Moore Avenue and began to flee on
foot.
According to the police report, after
additional Shelton police and Mason
County Sheriffs Office personnel ar—
rived with a Sheriffs Office K—9 to try
to locate Fisher, he surrendered to I
authorities before the search began.
The court ordered Fisher released
Feb. 27 from Mason County Jail on
a promise to appear at arraignment
during the man’s initial court appear-
ance.
