Nighttime-closures
planned for Shelton
Matlock U.S. 101, exit
The state Department of Transportation has
announced planned closures later this week of ’
the southbound exit and southbound on—ramp to'
Shelton Matlock Road near Shelton, according to a
news release.
If the weather cooperates, WSDOT plans to
close the exchange’s southbound ramps from 8
p.m. to 6 a.m. Wednesday night into Thursday
morning and Thursday evening into Friday. An
additional closure is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m.
‘ Friday with reopening slated for 8 a.m. the next
day.
According to the release, ramp construction is
part of WSDOT’s effort to remove fish barriers.
> This project aims to realign Coffee Creek into
Goldsborough Creek. WSDOT added 'in the release
that work is weather permitting and signed de-
tours will be in place during ramp construction.

MasonPUD 3 wins award
for 15th straight year
Mason PUD 3 received recent international
recognition for the quality and completeness of its
financial reporting, earning the Government Fi—
nance Officers Association of the U.S. and*Canada’s
(GFOA) certificate of excellence for its 2018 com-
prehensive annual financial report. It is the 15th
consecutive year PUD 3 earned the award.
PUD 3 was one of three Washington public utili-
ties recognized. .
“The certificate of achievement is the highest
form of recognition in governmental accounting and
financial reporting,” Michele Mark Levin, GFOA
director of technical services, said in a letter an-
nouncing PUD 3’s recognition. “Its attainment rep-
resents a significant accomplishment by a govern-
mental entity and its management.”
Additionally, PUD 3 reports that the state Audi-
tor’s Office inspects the utility’s financial reporting,

and hasn’t made a finding of poor reporting prac—
tices in more than 40 years.
Mason PUD 3, the larger of the county’s two
public utilities, serves more than 34,000 electricity
customers within about a 600—square-mile coverage
area.
Two public hearings on
tap for St. Patrick’s Day
The Board of Mason County Commissioners is
scheduled to host two public hearings during its
Tuesday regular business meeting in Shelton.
' The first hearing, scheduled to start no ear-
lier than 9:15 a.m., is to consider the surplus of a
0.34-acre land parcel of as an intergovernmental
exchange with the Port of Hoodsport for use as a
septic drain field for community restrooms.
A second Tuesday public hearing is to consider
sflpplemental appropriations and amendments to
the county’s 2020 budget.
At that hearing, the BOCC will consider
$274,162 in total adjustments to authorized ex-
penditure appropriations to the general fund, and
$976,823 in adjustments to authorized expenditure
appropriations to other funds.
Board of Mason County Commission meetings
are at 9 a.m. the first three Tuesdays of the month
at the county’s administration building at 411 N.
Fifth St., Shelton. The board meets at 6 p.m. the
fourth Thursday of each month.
