The Shelton High School
baseball team started practice last
week and is currently hard at
work for its season-opener against
West Bremerton March 21.
The Climber baseballers have
eight lettermen back from last
year's club which finished second
in the league with a fine 14-5
record.
Seniors Ken Kingery, Duane
Makoviney, Terry Knight, Ray
Krumpols, Doug Long, Pat
Davidson and Sonny Vercher and
juniors Larry Schuffenhauer, Tim
Allen and Dan Morgan make up
the varsity team right now.
There's also a JV team made up
of freshmen and sophomores and
Coach Buitenveld says that two or
three JV's will be moved up to
varsity for games.
Buitenveld says the pitching
should be strong with Ray
Krumpols and Terry Knight back
from last year's fine team.
Krumpols had a 6.0
record last season. The
have also been ablel

The Shelton High School
track team started turnouts March
1 on the new rubberized asphalt
track at Hi~.,hclimber Stadium.
The track team has been one
of the most successful sport teams
in Shelton in the last few years,
and Coach Bill Brickert has 20
lettermen back this year,
including a senior group that has
lost only one dual track meet in
the last two years.
Seniors Steve Baze, John
Boggs, Paul Dwyer, Rick
Endicott, Norbert Huber, Mark
Lewis, Bill Madison, George
Miller, Tom Noreen, and Brad
Oling are two-year lettermen,
while Barry Gesche, Jim Hillier
and Rick Yates are seniors who
lettered last season.
Juniors Dana Boelk, Jim
Gonzalez, Fred Miller, Tony
Molinero, Ken O'Dell, Lyle Oling
and Steve Settle also were letter
winners last season. Molinero was
the leading scorer on the team last
year and qualified for the state
meet in the low hurdles.
There are letternren back in
every event, which should make
for a strong team, as well as a
pronlising group of sophomores.
Looking at the upcoming season,
Brickert is optimistic, and he says
that the new AA District and
state meet should help the team.
AA and AAA size schools both
had to be in the same sub-district,
district and state meets in the past
but this year will be separate.
