The Northwest Lions Foundation Health Screening Unit recently
visited Shelton.
Lions Club screening unit helps students
The Northwest Lions Foundation Health
Screening Unit visited Shelton the week of
March 5 and spent four days screening eye-
sight and hearing for more than 2,000 local
students.
Each of the three elementary schools in
the Shelton School District participated, as
well as Olympic Middle School.
In addition, the unit -- a van -- was
able to serve students at the Mason Coun-
ty Christian School and Mary M. Knight
School. Lions members from Morningstar
Lions and Shelton Lions clubs volunteered
to man the screening stations within the
new specially equipped trailer in order to
complete the testing.
Annual eye and hearing tests are a man-
dated health screening for students below
the eighth grade. Lions Club organizers said
it is difficult for school districts to complete
these tests with limited school nurses and
equipment. The local Lions clubs said they
are glad to provide this service to schools
and communities. Lions clubs within the
multiple district 19 area that covers Wash-
ington and northern Idaho provide funds to
operate the Health Screening Unit through
their fundraising activities.
One of these worldwide activities is
"White Cane Days" during late April and
early May. Lions Club members solicit do-
nations to help with their cause of prevent-
ing blindness during this campaign.
In addition to screening for vision and
hearing of school age students, the special
Health Screening Unit has equipment to
test adults for diabetes, blood pressure and
glaucoma.

Jill and Jazzy are young
adult siblings that would
like a forever home to share
together. Their owner sad-
ly had to give these loving
girls up due to an unfortu-
nate residential situation.
They need to find a special
family that will share love
and affection that these lov-
ing ladies deserve. Jill and
Jazzy are telling everyone
that they want to share a
lifetime of kitty cuddling,
napping and lap warm-
ing. Jill and Jazzy will
bring years of enjoyment
and companionship to the
right home.
For information on Jill
and Jazzy, or other avail-
able indoor-only kitties call
584-0594 or leave a mes-
sage at 426-2455.
