On Thursday, March 8, the golfers attended the jambo- ree at Gold Mountain Golf Course in Bremerton. "We had a beautiful day, but we didn't keep score," co- head coach Martha Music said. "Everybody had a great time." Music said players on both teams were a little nervous going out onto the course for the first time this season. "I think the jamboree took some pressure off the kids," she said. Prior to the start of the season, Music said both squads are hoping to go further into the postseason this year. After the girls' team sent one golfer to the state tourna- ment and the boys' team missed state by one stroke last season, the coaching staff has set its sights on a stronger showing this season. Music said the boys' and girls' teams are both strong in terms of turnout this season, with 14 on the boys' side and nine on the girls'. She explained that nine of the 14 boys would have to compete with one another each week just to play in that week's match. "The girls will have to play for a spot on the team for the coming week's game, too," Music said. While the boys' team has two returning seniors -- Mi- chael Wiseman and Derek Laaksonen -- April Griffiths is the lone senior for the girls' team. Griffiths played her freshman year but not her sophomore or junior years. Co-head coach Ron Music named sophomore Andy Renne and junior Tommy Renne as golfers to watch this season. "They both played last year and almost made it to dis- tricts," he said. "I feel they can move up and make it to state." Martha Music chose two sophomores as golfers to watch. "Brooke Mills is a very strong player and she's very en- thusiastic," she said. "Andi Rasmussen is also a very strong player. The girls who are standing out play other sports so they understand pressure and competition." _, Both coaches said they expect competitive performances from the teams this season.
