Johnston lists his accomplishments
as including strenghthening "fiscal
oversight and budget transparency ...

Long time Mason County politician

run for port commissioner
in the upcoming election.
"I have served this na-

several , capacities for
many years and now feel

Taylor Shelton Commissioner,"
Taylor says.
Taylor lists among his reasons for
running an interest in the economic
development of Mason County.

For three hours Sunday
evening, U.S. Highway 101
was completely blocked
from traffic at milepost
325 near Lilliwaup, due to
a fresh mudslide that oc-
curred there at about 4:30
p.m.
Crews from the Wash-
ington State Department of
Transportation (WSDOT)
arrived by 5:30 p.m. and
were able to re-open the
roadway at 7:35 p.m.
Another mudslide fol-
lowed shortly thereafter
on U.S. 101, near Eldon, at
3:15 a.m. Monday morning,

said WSDOT spokesperson
Joe Irwin.
"The slide was three feet
deep and 30 feet wide; it
covered the whole road-
way," he said. "A semi truck
tried to drive through the
slide and they got stuck
there."
The Eldon slide was
cleared by 7:50 a.m. Mon-
day, though crews returned
later that day for additional
cleanup.
On State Route 106, near
Skobob Creek in Union,
winds caused trees to fall
across the roadway in the
westbound direction at
about 4:40 a.m. Monday, Ir-
win said.
WSDOT crews cleared
the roadway by 5:20 a.na.
If drivers encounter a
mudslide and they're not
sure what to do, Irwin ad-
vises them to turn around
and call the authorities.
"Call 911 and report it
as you would any kind of
incident," he said. "Do not
try to drive through these
things. I wouldn't recom-
mend that. Leave it to the
professionals."
