Pete Earl Bloomfield Pete Earl Bloomfield, 87, died on Friday, March 11, 2011. He lived in Shelton his entire life and was raised with 11 siblings at the fam- ily homestead on Bloomfield Road in Kamilche. He mar- ried Max- ine (Clark) in 1942 and then served in World War II. After military service in Europe, he Pete Earl returned Bloomfield to Shelton where he started a logging company that supported his family for nearly 40 years. In his re- tirement, he drove a bus for the Shelton School District. He was an avid aviator and owned a Maule M-4 Rocket, which he flew to Alaska sev- eral times. He was also an accomplished puzzle solver, an avid hunter and fisher- man, a master blackberry picker, an amateur bowler, a talented baseball player, storyteller and a wonderful husband and father. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Maxine; his son Jerry (Tue), daughters Dar- lene Stott (Jim), Peg Bloom- field, Susan Giffin-Huey (Jim); 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter; and a sister, Dolly O'Malley (Bill) of Oregon City, Ore. A celebration of his life will be held at 4 p.m. on Fri- day, March 18 at the Shelton Civic Center. In lieu of flowers, dona- tions can be made to the Pete Bloomfield Foundation to support Little League base- ball and softball at Our Com- munity Credit Union, 526 West Cedar Street, Shelton, WA 98584. McComb Funeral Home in Shelton will be han- dling the arrangements. JaNean M. 'wGinger' Brown JaNean M. "Ginger" Brown, 69, died Monday, March 7, 2011 at Capital Medical Center, Olympia. She was a long-time resi- dent of Shelton. She was born January 24, 1942 in Spokane to Ver- non and Bernadine "Bunny" (Johnston) Wolfrum. She graduated in 1960 from Wilbur High School and at- tended Western Washing- ton Uni- versity. S h e married Donald R. Brown on May 26, JaNean M. 1962 in "Ginger" Wilbur. Brown W h i 1 e raising her family, she went to work as a secretary for Don's insurance company, Brown and Asso- ciates. She then spent the next 20 years working within the Shelton School District, mainly as a secretary for the special service department. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially their yearly trips to Ocean Shores. She also enjoyed at- tending lunches, dinners and barbecues with family and friends, and shopping with her girls. Her family shared that she had a contagious laugh--even once being sent to the principal's office for laughing too loudly in class. She is survived by her hus- band Don Brown of Shelton; children Lisa Fox (Grant), Scott Brown (Julie), Jeffrey Brown (Lorie) and Rick Brown, all of Shelton; broth- er John Wolfrum (Bev) of Denver, Colo.; grandchildren Kathleen Haak (Graham), Kristina Johnson (Michael), Hollie Brown, Cindee Brown Donald Brown, Scan Brown, Sarah Brown, Kairee Brown and Duncan Brown and great-granddaughter Emma Johnson. She was preceded in death by parents and brother Mon- ty "Skip" Wolfrum. (Sonny) Gatewood Lee R. (Sonny) Gatewood, 70, died March 8, 2011 in Shelton. He was a lifetime resident of Shelton and was known as Grandpa Shelton. Gate- wood was born on December 27, 1940 to Ray- mond L. Gatewood and Ruby (Shaw) Wingerter. Lee R. He was (Sonny) in the U.S. Gatewood Navy from 1956 to 1971 and a Vietnam veteran serving on the USS King, USS Bridgette, USS Sperry, USS O'Callaghan and the USS Evans. His rank on discharge was TM3, torpedo shooter. He was acknowledged for receiving the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two stars and the National Defense Service Medal with two silver stars. He was married to Mary L. (Marshall) Gatewood. The marriage ended in divorce in 1979, but they remained good friends until her death in 2009. He had a 28-year partner, Katherine York. He is survived by his part- ner Katherine York of Shel- ton; sisters Patricia Hontz of Bremerton, Cheryl Foster of Bremerton, Lori Gatewood of Poulsbo and Lynne Phillips (Clancy) of Sequim; broth- ers Dale Gatewood of Walla Walla and Duane Gatewood (Debbie) of Shelton; daugh- ters Lorrie Gatewood of Naches, Tina Gatewood of Seattle, Monica McAllister (Mike) of Everett and Crissy Ramirez (Teofilo) of Coving- ton; sons Wayne Gatewood of Seattle and Raymond Gate- wood (Ann) of Snoqualmie; step-daughters Jackie and Kitty York of Shelton; 16 grandchildren and 10 great- grandchildren with one more due in September. His parents, brother Wayne Gatewood, son Lee W. Gatewood, brother-in-law Robert Hontz Sr., sister-in- laws Tami and Dobie Gate- wood, nephews Robert Hontz Jr. and Justin Phillips, niece Wayna Gatewood and great- grandchild Lovely Ramirez, preqeded him in death. A service is scheduled at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 18 at the Four Square Church in Shelton. Ken Nillson and Tina Gatewood will conduct the service. After the service there will be a small gathering at the church with light snack and refreshments and at 4 p.m. there will be drinks and a potluck at Pine Tree Restaurant. June Elvira McDougall June Elvira McDougall, 78, died Thursday, March 10, 2011 peacefully at home, surrounded by her family. She was a resident of Mason Lake in Grapeview for 20 years. She was born June 7, 1932 to Erick and Mina (Ha- glund) Hofstead in Stewart B.C., Can- ada. She gradu- ated in June Elvira 1952 from MeDougall John Oli- ver High School in Vancouver, B.C. She married Stafford Mc- Dougall on May 10, 1958 in Vancouver, B.C. She enjoyed Mason Lake and living in the United States very much although her heart and respect was always in her motherland of Canada, her family shared. Her family said she was a devoted and dedicated wife and mother to her husband and three sons. She was very much involved with the boys and their soccer growing up. Known as a "soccer mom," she once coordinated the mothers in her basement to make 18 matching coats for a Canadian Exchange Soc- cer Tournament Game that was held in Vancouver, BC. Her sons expressed that she was "the best stay at home mother ever." She was a member of the Le Femmes at the 40 et 8, the Elks and the Eagles. Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting, sewing, cooking and traveling. She and her husband were snowbirds and traveled to Indio, Calif. every winter. Lately, she enjoyed crossword puzzles. She kept a lovely home and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchil- dren on the lake and with the neighbors and friends of the lake. She is survived by her husband Stafford S. Mc- Dougall of Grapeview; sons Shawn McDougall of Bremerton, Stafford Mc- Dougall of Grapeview and Stuart McDougall (Kelley) of Renton; granddaugh- ters Maura McDougall and Mkari McDougall both of Renton; sister Pearl McDon- ald (Lester) of Ladysmith, B.C. and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Christian 'Chris' Hans Petersen Christian "Chris" Hans Petersen, 48, of Sequim, died on March 2, 2011, at home following a battle with colon cancer. He was born Janu- ary 7, 1963 to Arne and Tove Petersen in Seattle. H e grew up in Bellev- Christian ue. After "Chris" Hans graduat- Petersen ing Inter- lake High School in 1981, he joined the United States Army. He spent most of his seven years of ser- vice stationed in Louisiana, serving as an Intelligence Analyst and rising to the rank of Sergeant. Upon returning to Wash- ington, he attended Olympic Community College and the University of Washington, studying political science. He worked at Amgen in Seattle as a Senior Security Officer from 1994-2003. In 2004, he returned to mili- tary work as he took on a civilian job as a Physical Security Specialist at Naval Station Everett and in 2008 at Naval Station Bangor. Throughout his life, he enjoyed many family gath- erings at the Petersen fam- ily cabin on Hood Canal. He had a real sense for adven- ture and enjoyed numerous outdoor activities includ- ing bicycling, hiking, rock climbing, scuba diving, ski- ing, and kayaking. He married Rhonda Rose, December 29, 2007 in Reno, Nev. after a two-year court- ship. In 2006, he and Rhonda completed the Seattle to Portland 200-mile bike ride; and in 2009, they completed the Rock-n-Roll Half Mara- thon in Las Vegas. Peterson and his wife enjoyed their travels, including trips to Cape Cod, Jamaica, South Dakota, Washington DC and various trips explor- ing the Pacific Coast and Cascade Mountains. They created even more cher- ished memories on their two mountain bike rides on the Route of the Hiawatha near Wallace, Idaho. As Peterson's cancer pro- gressed, he was not able to enjoy outdoor activities. He enjoyed watching old mov- ies with his mom and he worked on perfecting his dart game. His friends and family describe him as loy- al, and kind with a love of cats and dogs and all living things and having a sense of humor, even in tough situa- tions. He is survived by his mother, Tove Petersen of Belfair; wife, Rhonda Rose; stepdaughter, Lindsay Rieker of Steilacoom; step- son, Ryan Rieker of Port Angeles; his brother, Glenn Petersen (Gloria) of Belfair; sister, Janet Williams (Tim) of Snoqualmie; three neph- ews Eric, Brian and Alec and four nieces Kirsten, Ja- mie, Elaine and Danielle. His father, Arne Peters- en, preceded him in death. Family and friends are invited to a celebration of life to be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 16 at Ram- blewood Environmental Learning Center in Sequim. Katheryn Powell Katheryn Powell, 86, died on March 10, 2011, sur- rounded by her children. She was born on March 29, 1924 in Woodstock, Minn. to Jacob and Sara (Murphy) Nissen. She was one of eleven chil- dren. She graduated from Hank's High School in North Dakota, where she was an avid basketball player, set- ting high school records. Her picture hung in the school un- til the building burned. She married Cecil C. Powell, on April 27, 1945. She will be re- membered by her seven chil- dren: sons, Thomas (Karren) of Olympia, Tim (Savannah) of Milton; daughters, Pauline Albro (Orion), Bonnie Costa (James), both of Olympia, Ivy Dickinson (Bill) of Both- ell, Vicki Rodgers (Ronald) and Bobbi Kerr (Brian), both of Shelton; 18 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchil- dren; sister Iola Johnson of Cutback, Mont.; and numer- ous nieces and nephews. Her husband, two daugh- ters, Mary (Kitty) Powell and Terri Ann Wangen, two grandchildren, one great- grandchild, seven brothers, two sisters and both parents preceded her in death. A graveside service in memory of our mother and grandmother will be held at the family plot at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 19, at the Memorial Park Cemetery, 5275 Littlerock Rd SW, Tumwater, arrangements by Mills and Mills Funeral Home. Internment will fol- low. A reception will take place air the service at 4 p.m. at Providence St. Francis House located at 3415 12th Avenue NE, Olympia. David Michael Robecker David Michael Robecker, 39, died March 7, 2011 in Se- attle. He was a 16-year resi- dent of Shelton. He was born on December 15, 1971 to Steve Rebecker and Barbara (Pullar) Ro- becker in Aberdeen. He graduated in 1990 from Montesano High School, Montesano. He married Tracey Selleg on July 27, 1991 in Monte- sano. His family shared that he had a giving heart and a ready smile. His children and his family were his life. He was always laughing and was known for playing prac- tical jokes. He made friends wherever he went. Next to his family, his job was his passion and he en- joyed his co-workers as a fam- ily. He found his greatest joy in being David outdoors. Michael Manson Robecker Construc- tion em- ployed him as a deck engi- neer. He was a member of the Operating Engineers, Local 302 since 1990. His interests included hunting, fishing, spending time with his children and working on cars. He was member of Shelton First Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Tracey Robecker of Shel- ton, children Taylor and Chase,father Steve (Norma) Robecker of Montesano, mother Barbara Robecker of Shelton, brothers Mark (Kari) Robecker of Monte- sano and Todd Robecker of Montesano, and grandmoth- er Mae Pullar of Aberdeen. He will also be forever re- membered by his extended family and many special friends. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Rellias Pullar; grandmother Ardith Heacox and grandfather Charles Heacox.
