North Mason High
School senior Kasey Bielec
returns for his senior sea-
son ast the team's leading
pitcher and batter from
last season.
While the first two games
have been postponed, it has
only made Bielec more anx-
ious to get onto the field.
"I've been ready to play
for weeks now. Just being
inside sucks," Bielec said.
"You look down the field
and not be able to do any-
thing."
First year head coach
Bill Geyer said in last
week's Journal that Bielec
is a team leader and hopes
the team can utilize the se-
nior to earn a return trip to
the 2A state tournament.
Bielec was thankful for
Geyer's comments.
"I think that anybody
who says you're a great
leader only has positive
things to say," Bielec said.
"Hopefully I'll take that
and become the leader that
he expects me to be."
Bielec began play-
ing baseball at the age of
four, but said he has been
around the sport longer
than that with his family
involved, including his fa-
ther, Bishop, who is cur-
rently an assistant coach
at North Mason.
While Bielec has been
a three-sport athlete at
North Mason (football and
basketball), his preference
always has and always will
be baseball.
"By far my favorite sport,
the one I enjoy the most,"
he said.
Bielec also has an ar-
senal of pitches for a high

school player - a four-seem
fastball, a two-seem fast-
ball, curveball and change-
up.
"I was thinking about in-
cluding a slider and a cut
fastball, but I decided to
keep it simple," Bielec said.
The Bulldog senior said
that his go-to pitch in the
important 3-2 count is his
fastbaU.
"I'll go to my fastball ev-
erytime," he said. "I think
I've got good control of it."
As for his baseball fu-
ture, Bielec has verbally
committed to play at Cen-
tral Washington Univer-
sity in Ellensburg, where
his brother Brett is an out-
fielder in his junior season.
Bielec said he will sign
his letter of intent during
the signing period in April.
But his focus remains on
his senior year in Belfair,
hoping to help the Bulldogs
return to the state tourna-
ment.
"I would love to go back
to state," Bielec said. "It's
one of the funnest experi-
ences."
Last season, North Ma-
son completed an 11-13
record after losing to Arch-
bishop Murphy High School
at state, 11-2.
Bielec said the loss at
state was agsinst a team of
a quality the Bulldogs have
never faced before.
"We're used to everyone
being about the same cali-
ber and they were at a level
that we have never seen be-
fore," Bielec said.
Bielec said it was good
point for the team to build
up to and said the team has
been working hard to reach
the level to compete with
the top-tier teams in the
state.
"Hopefully, we'll be there
this year and maybe if we
face [Archbishop Murphy]
again and we'll be able to
take them," Bielec said.
"I think anything less
than [state] would be a dis-
appointment because we've
already set the bar that
high and we want to be
back there again," he con-
tinued.
Bielec said he is excited
to face some of the teams
in the 1A/2A/3A Olympic
League. Last season, the
Bulldogs finished 8-8 in the
league, which was mixed
with 2A/3A teams.
But with reclassifica-
tions throughout the state,
Bielec is ready to face a
team like North Kitsap
High School, who finished
17-4 overall with a 14-2
Olympic League record.
"Considering that they're
coming off a great year and
they were that dominant
3A team and now they're
2A, I'm hoping we can take
it to them," Bielec said.
The North Mason senior
said he is ready to go and
excited for another season
with the Bulldogs, a group
of guys he affectionately
called "characters."
"They keep it fun and
loose," he said. "I like it
this year."
