IRS mobile tax service
will be here next week
The Internal Revenue Service
will bring its free customer ser-
vice to Shelton via the IRS Tax
Mobile next Monday and Tues-
day, March 22 and 23.
The mobile service will open its
doors in the Wal-Mart parking lot
from noon to 4:30 p.m. Monday
and from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Tuesday.
Tax Mobile staff will answer
questions, distribute forms, help
with tax problems and prepare
basic individual tax returns in
the 30-foot leased motorhome as
part of a tour around the Olympic
Peninsula and Southwest Wash-
ington.
"This is the first year in many
years that the IRS has taken free
customer service on the road,"
said Shawn George of the IRS.
The van due in Shelton next week
is actually the second for the Pa-
cific Northwest. The IRS had
such a favorable response to a
van that began service in Oregon
City in January and has been
making the rounds in Oregon and
Eastern Washington that it
leased a second unit to assist
more taxpayers before the April
15 filing deadline.
The mobile unit will proceed to
Port Townsend, Port Angeles,
Neah Bay, Forks, Aberdeen, Ray-
mond, Longview, Morton and
Centralia between now and April
15.
People who need tax help and
who can't visit the Tax Mobile or
an Internal Revenue Service
walk-in office can call the IRS at
1-800-829-1040 seven days a
week, 24 hours a day.
D NR sells seedling trees, shrubs
to offset damage from winter rain
This winter's unusually wet
weather, says Washington De-
partment of Natural Resources
spokesperson Cindy Joy Neff,
provides a number of reasons for
people to think of planting trees.
"Trees can 'drink' a lot of water
and, with their branches, ease the
force with which rain hits the
ground," Neff points out. "Tree
roots can also help stabilize near-
by soils."
Individuals and communities
planning to participate this April
in Washington's Arbor Month cel-
ebration can purchase trees
through the Arbor Day Council,
Neff said. The deadline for order-
ing is March 24.
"Early orders will assure the
filing of the copy of this notice with the Clerk of
the Court, whichever is later or, except under
those provisions included in RCW 11.40.011 or
RCW 11.40.013, the claim will be forever
barred,

Eickmeyer
says bill can
aid counties
Washington State Representa-
tive Bill Eickmeyer has come up
with a new bipartisan plan he
says will make money available to
rural counties to improve in-
frastructure.
His House Bill 2260, intro-
duced March 3, would allow Ma-
son and Grays Harbor counties
and other "distressed" counties to
keep up to .08 percent of sales-tax
receipts, rather than the current
.04 percent authorized bythe leg-
islature two years ago.
The counties, he said, can use
the money to build or improve
bridges, roads, water systems,
railroads, port facilities and other
infrastructure components.
A similar measure introduced
earlier this year, House Bill 1478,
stalled in the House Economic
Development, Housing and Trade
Committee, of which Eickmeyer is
vice chair. But the lawmaker said
he would "keep hammering away"
to try for aid for rural areas.

IRS mobile tax service
will be here next week
The Internal Revenue Service
will bring its free customer ser-
vice to Shelton via the IRS Tax
Mobile next Monday and Tues-
day, March 22 and 23.
The mobile service will open its
doors in the Wal-Mart parking lot
from noon to 4:30 p.m. Monday
and from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Tuesday.
Tax Mobile staff will answer
questions, distribute forms, help
with tax problems and prepare
basic individual tax returns in
the 30-foot leased motorhome as
part of a tour around the Olympic
Peninsula and Southwest Wash-
ington.
"This is the first year in many
years that the IRS has taken free
customer service on the road,"
said Shawn George of the IRS.
The van due in Shelton next week
is actually the second for the Pa-
cific Northwest. The IRS had
such a favorable response to a
van that began service in Oregon
City in January and has been
making the rounds in Oregon and
Eastern Washington that it
leased a second unit to assist
more taxpayers before the April
15 filing deadline.
The mobile unit will proceed to
Port Townsend, Port Angeles,
Neah Bay, Forks, Aberdeen, Ray-
mond, Longview, Morton and
Centralia between now and April
15.
People who need tax help and
who can't visit the Tax Mobile or
an Internal Revenue Service
walk-in office can call the IRS at
1-800-829-1040 seven days a
week, 24 hours a day.
D NR sells seedling trees, shrubs
to offset damage from winter rain
This winter's unusually wet
weather, says Washington De-
partment of Natural Resources
spokesperson Cindy Joy Neff,
provides a number of reasons for
people to think of planting trees.
"Trees can 'drink' a lot of water
and, with their branches, ease the
force with which rain hits the
ground," Neff points out. "Tree
roots can also help stabilize near-
by soils."
Individuals and communities
planning to participate this April
in Washington's Arbor Month cel-
ebration can purchase trees
through the Arbor Day Council,
Neff said. The deadline for order-
ing is March 24.
"Early orders will assure the
filing of the copy of this notice with the Clerk of
the Court, whichever is later or, except under
those provisions included in RCW 11.40.011 or
RCW 11.40.013, the claim will be forever
barred,

Eickmeyer
says bill can
aid counties
Washington State Representa-
tive Bill Eickmeyer has come up
with a new bipartisan plan he
says will make money available to
rural counties to improve in-
frastructure.
His House Bill 2260, intro-
duced March 3, would allow Ma-
son and Grays Harbor counties
and other "distressed" counties to
keep up to .08 percent of sales-tax
receipts, rather than the current
.04 percent authorized bythe leg-
islature two years ago.
The counties, he said, can use
the money to build or improve
bridges, roads, water systems,
railroads, port facilities and other
infrastructure components.
A similar measure introduced
earlier this year, House Bill 1478,
stalled in the House Economic
Development, Housing and Trade
Committee, of which Eickmeyer is
vice chair. But the lawmaker said
he would "keep hammering away"
to try for aid for rural areas.
