The State Patrol, wh ich investigated the accident, said the 1974 pickup driven by Omer Tracy, 40, Rt. 3, Box 768, Shelton, was a total loss. Tracy was not injured. Judge Cunningham was sitting in Mason County as a visiting judge that day. Shelton attorney Gerald Whitcomb was appointed to represent Watters on the charge. He 'appeared before Judge Robert Doran Tuesday afternoon and was released on personal recognizance. Trial in the case was ordered set within 90 days after he entered a plea of not guilty. One of four Mason County high school senior girls will be announced as Mason County Forest Festival Queen at the queen's banquet Tuesday night. Candidates for queen are Connie Tuson and Rhonda Endicott from Shelton High School, Bonnie Crabtree from Mary M. Knight High School, and Cheri Yoest from North Mason High School. The queen was selected by a panel of judges last Thursday evening after they had heard the girls present a talk on the theme of the Forest Festival, "The Magic Tree," give their opinion on a question on current events, and give a talent presentation. The name of the queen is kept secret until the announcement at the queen's banquet. The queen's banquet is being held about two months earlier" than usual this year. in past years the queen's banquet has been the kick-off event for the Forest Festival Week activities in May. The queen's banquet is sponsored by the Shelton Chamber of Commerce and will be held in the Student Union Building at Sheiton High School starting at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday evening. The event is open to the public. Tickets are available at Seattle-First National Bank, Puget Sound National Bank, I1"1" Rayonier, Mason County Federal Credit Union, Neil's Pharmacy, Shelton High School office, the Chamber of Commerce office in the PUD 3 building, and Simpson Timber Company. The Versatile Horsemen's Association had petitioned the court for the appointment of Mrs. Kimball. The club was represented by Ed Holm, Olympia attorney, in the petition to the court. After the appointment, an oath of office was administered by Judge Henry. A recommendation from the city water department that charges for turn-off and turn-on because of non-payment of water bills be increased from $4 to $6 was taken under consideration by the Shelton City Conmfission at its meeting Tuesday. City Engineer •Howard Godat told the commission the recommendation had been made by the water department to cover additional costs Which incurred for overtime in these cases frequently. City Attorney B. Franklin Heuston told the commission he had some reservations about the proposed increase and would like a week to study possible legal questions. The commission, on the recommendation of Godat, voted to accept the bid of Sahiberg Equipment Company for a jet sewer cleaner for the sewer department. The firm's bid of $14,589.32 was low of four bids received on the equipment. The commission voted authorization for the mayor to sign an agreement with the State Department of Ecology which will allow the city to get a grant for part of the cost of the complex facilities study which is underway. A petition for annexation of a piece of property in the Mt. View area was received from John and Thelma Kneeland. Club Princess Vickie White and rural school Princesses Patricia Johnson, Grapeview; Kim Smith, Hood Canal Junior High; Dana Petrick, North Mason Upper Elementary; Jan Rogers, Mary M. Knight; Kathy~Goldsby, Pioneer; and Laurie Conklin, Southside. The crown will be placed on the queen by festival president Bill Davison. Master of ceremonies for the program will be Ross Haffner. Chamber president Norm Eveleth will welcome the guests and lead the flag salute, and the invocation will be presented by Rudie Oltman, chamber secretary. The early date for the queen's banquet js one of several changes in the Forest Festival this year. A nether activity will be scheduled to lead off festival activities May 27-31.. Much of the festival, including the logging show and carnival, is being moved to the Mason County fairgrounds "this year. The parades will be held in downtown Shelton as they have in the past. Plans are to have booth exhibits and concessions at the fairgrounds also.
