The Washington State Young
Democrat convention, which, will
be held in Spokane April 4, 5 and
6, will be the topic for discussion
at the meeting of the Mason
County Young Democrats March
25.
The local group will discuss
and decide on resolutions and
platform to present at the state
c onven tion.
Capital punishment and
stricter law enforcement will be
discussed as to what stand to take
at the convention.
Young Democrats is open to
anyone 14 to 35 years of age.
Tenino to have
music festival
Several events have been
scheduled for the Tenino Old
Time Music Festival Friday and
Satu rday.
Friday night at 7:30 p.m. at
Tenino High School will be a
musical variety show sponsored
by District 9, Washington Old
Time Fiddlers' Association, in
cooperation with the Tenino
Lions Club.
The Saturday afternoon
activities will include musical
workshops at the school from 1
to 5 p.m.
Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. at
the school will be the Selective
Variety Show produced by the
Tenino Lions Club.

Easter program
"The Glory of Easter" is the
cantata being presented by the
choir at the Shelton Foursquare
Church Sunday morning at I I
a.m. This presentation of the
Easter story is one of John W.
Peterson's compositions.
Choir to sing
The 74-voice Judson Concert
Choir will sing at the Shelton
First Baptist Church at 7 p.m.
March 23.
The choir comes from Judson
Baptist College, Portland, Oregon.

Learned Hand
Puppet show
scheduled
A children's puppet show
featuring a singing dragon, a
seagull with flying metals and a
sinister wizard with a pointed hat
emblazoned with silver stars will
be performing at the Timberland
South Mason Library Thursday,
March 20 at 7 p.m.
The show will be presented by
the Magic Garden Puppet Theatre
of Ocean City, a small group led
by Nell and Diana Leonard who
have been giving puppet shows,
making hand-puppets and
teaching hand-puppet making for
various camps and groups for the
past five years.
Highlights of the puppet show
will be the musical portions. Nell
will play the guitar; Sir Benjamin,
a puppet character, will perform
on the harmonica; and the singing
dragon will solo in a voice only
slightly off-key.
The hour-long puppet show
will include fairy tales and skits
using 20 puppets. The show is
free and open to the public.

Applications are now available
to Shelton High School seniors
for the $500 Shelton Rotary
scholarship, it was announced this
week.
The scholarship is open to
graduating seniors from Shelton
High School who plan to attend a
full accredited college or
vocational school.
Applications are available
from the Shelton High School
principal or guidance counselor
and must be completed and
returned before April 30.
The winner will be selected by
a committee of Rotary members.
Applications should be mailed
to Shelton Rotary Scholarship,
P.O. Box 178, Shelton.
Winner of the scholarship last
year was Nancy Eveleth.

In a special board of directors
meeting held Monday evening the
Hood Canal School Board voted
to run the levy again in 45 days
and run it with the idea to pass it.
It was expressed that the
money requested was necessary so
that the district would be capable
of providing the scope and quality
of educational services people as a
whole desire for their children.
"We are going to make every
effort to break the
communication gap to get the 60
percent in favor that is required
by state law," commented
Superintendent John Pill. "The
district got a majority vote on the
first try last week."
A strong request was made by
a guest in attendance at the
meeting to help notify people
who are interested in voter
registration. Therefore, those who
are new in the school district and
wish to transfer their voting,
those who failed to register and
would like to, and all young
people attaining their 18th
birthday may register to vote
until April 4. Registrars are Mrs.
Vivian Olsen in LiUiwaup, Mrs.
Carmen Sarkowitz in Middle
Valley or Eells, Mrs. Shirley Hicks
in Hoodsport at Hood Canal
Realty, in Portaltch with Mrs. Jo
Hein at PUD, in Union at Union
Grocery with David Mueller. Mrs.
Norma Gray will also sign up
anyone in the main office at the
Hood Canal School.
