Kilmer to hold telephone town hall today

At 7 p.m. today, US. Rep. Derek
Kilmer, D-Gig Harbor, has scheduled
a telephone town hall regarding the
federal government’s response to the,
novel coronavirus.
In addition to discussion on the
legislation passed by Congress to sup-
port workers and families, the town
hall will feature experts to help an-
swer constituents’ questions regard—
ing best practices and ongoing medi-
cal efforts to address COVID-19, the
disease caused by the coronavirus.
Scheduled to be on the call are Dr.
Paul Pottinger and Dr. Nathan Schli-
cher.
Pottinger is the director of the
Infectious Diseases and Tropical
Medicine Clinic at the University of
Washington Medical Center and an
associate professor of Medicine and
Allergy and Infectious Diseases at'
UW. '
Schlicher is president—elect of the
Washington State Medical Associa-
tion and regional medical director of
quality assurance for the emergency
departments at CHI Franciscan.
“I work for the people I represent
and it’s important to me that I get
the opportunity to hear directly from
you,” Kilmer said in a news release.
“I hope folks will be able to join the
town hall on Thursday evening to
learn more about COVID-19, my on-
going efforts to ensure the federal
government steps up, and to get ques-
tions answered about the COVID-19
threat.”
Kilmer has had town halls so far in
the 116th Congress in Port Angeles,
Quilcene, Tacoma, Belfair, Poulsbo,
Kingston, Gig Harbor, Montesano,
Westport and Forks, as well as over
the phone and on Facebook.

Cases: Public Health asks residents to limit interactions

Public Health states that
testing for COVID-19 does
nothhappen through the de-
partment —- it is conducted
through medical providers
and hospitals. About 97% of
those tested have a negative
result;
“Keeping track of the ex-
act number can be difficult
and time consuming due to
the number of community
members being tested out of
county,” the release states.
During a Board of County
Commissioners briefing Mon-
day, Mason County Commu—
nity Services Director Dave
Windom said the county has
seen 96 tests return negative
and two positive. Those num-
bers include Mason County
residents who have tested in
Kitsap or other counties.
During a brief meeting

thorized the county’s public
_health department to hire
an additional temporary full-
time employee.
Mason County Public
Health asks residents to do
the following to reduce the
spread of the coronavirus:
I Limit' interactions and
practice social distancing. Work
with your family, workplace
and the community to limit ac-
tivities in the coming weeks.
I Call ahead and do not
go to the emergency room un-
less seriously ill. If you show
symptoms, call your regular
doctor or health care provider.
I Stay at home When sick
and limit close contact with
others in your house. _
I Avoid visiting hospitals,
long-term care facilities or
nursing homes. If you need to
visit one of these facilities, call
ahead.
I Practice excellent per-
