RESPONSE cont. from page A-31
we will now only send in one
firefighter initially to greet you.
You will also find that responder
is wearing gloves, safety glasses
and a mask; we may also place a
mask on you as a precaution. If
additional assistance is needed,
the firefighter will ask the other
on-scene responders to assist. As
always, We will provide recom-
mendations to the patient regard—
ing how to proceed with care; this
might include a trip to the emer-
gency room.
‘ In addition to the changes
we’ve made in the way we re-
spond to emergency calls, we
have also needed to adapt in
other ways, much like you. Like
the residents in our communities,"
many firefighters have families
who have been deeply affected by
the closure of local schools. We
have worked hard to ensure first
responders have the appropri-
ate child care, so they are able
to continue to work. Addition—
ally, We’ve developed contingency
plans in case any of our own fire—
fighters are affected personally by
COVID—19. Our firefighters, in-
cluding both career and volunteer
members, are stepping up and
are willing to fill staffing gaps
should they occur. '
Although this situation is new
to all of us, as firefighters, we
are accustomed to expecting the
unexpected. Firefighters are regu-
larly exposed to a variety of infec-
tious diseases that are potentially
harmful to us and our families.
We take all necessary precautions
to protect you and our respond-
ers so that we can minimize im-
pacts without exposing others to
harm. Despite the circumstances
changing daily, our firefighters
will continue to serve their com-
munities with the same courtesy
and professionalism you’ve come
to expect. Our morale is high, our
, confidence is strong and we will
get through this together.
We will continue to fulfil our
mission to safeguard our commu—
nities throughout Mason County,
through COVID-19 and well be-
yond.
