Mason County Literacy to hold volunteer pre- service training in April Mason County Liter- acy will hold a free pre- service volunteer tutor orientation and training April 15 and 16 for vol- unteers who are interest- ed in tutoring adults in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) in Mason and Thurston counties. The training and orientation equips the volunteer tutors with the tools they need to support student success. "Volunteer tutors are the backbone of our program," said Kris Smock, Executive Direc- tor. "With the supervi- sion of professional staff, they teach our students reading, math, com- puter literacy and Eng- lish language--funda- mental skills for better jobs, lives and a strong community." Last year 185 volunteers provided more than 8,000 hours of instruction for adult basic education and Eng- lish language learners.
