out eleven of the 26 batters he
faced, hit a home run, and
collected four runs batted in. In
the three games thus far, Corey
owns 12 bases on the homer, two
triples, and two singles.
Corey faced four batters in
each of the first four innings, but
had little trouble retiring the
sides. Two men got to third base
in the first four innings, once
because of a walk followed by an
error, and once on the only hit
given up by Corey followed by
another error.
He faced only nine men in the
last three innings, and fanned the
last four he faced.
For Shelton, it was a bombing

Tackle football will enjoy its first year next season at
Hood Canal Junior High School, thanks to the efforts of
Clayton Ferrier, Bill Bryant, and many contributors.
Enough money has been collected for 30 uniforms.
About $2800 dollars was raised, and approximately $1700 of
that was collected by Ferrier.
The program will include both the eighth and ninth
grades. The junior high has completed facilities for football
and track, and has bought a wrestling mat.
This will give Hood Canal three main sports-football,
basketball, and track-and an intramural sport, wrestling.
Bill Bryant will be the head coach of the Trojan grid
squad next year, assisted by Bill Smith.
Those who helped and contributed one complete uniform
were Kimbel's, Bill Smith, Manke and Sons, Gott Oil, Jess
Phillips, Merv's, Shumate Realty, Buck Arms_trong, Batstone,
Lowell Jarvis, Millo's Cafe, Joe Frint, Harry Cole, Chuck
Lanning, Bill Hunter, Don Molinaro, Alderbrook, Oscar
Yates, Curt Grout, John Pill, Hoodsport Market, Union
Improvement Club, Bud Hays, Dick Endicott, and Gerry
Richert.
Those who made donations were Beckwith's, Nell's,
Mike's Saw Shop, Bob Bearden, Russell Enterprises, Bill
Johnson, AI Johnson, Saeger Motor Shop, Shelton Foods,
Western Parts, Jim's Shell, Robert Keenan, Wolden's
Chevron, and Merle Lindgren.

the Climbers had seven hits. Two
men, Brad Jones and Curt
Stracke, got on base via errors,
and they both scored. Jones was
the first man on. He ran to second
on a passed ball, went to third on
a wild pitch, and came home with
the game's first run when Corey
sacrificed. Mike Nutt smashed
double to score Stracke. Having
struck out the first Climber in the
order, the T-Bird pitcher struck
out the next batter to retire the
side.
The second and third innings
passed without any scoring for
the Climbers, although Stracke hit
a single and stole second base in
the third.
In the fourth, the first batter
was picked off after having gotten
a free ride on balls. Bruce Cole's
single started off a three run rally.
He was almost stranded on base
when the next batter fouled out,
but Neal White cracked his only
hit of the day at the perfect time.
Mike Bac followed with another
single and knocked in Cole. Jones
got a single to score White, and
Corey sacrificed to get Bac home.
The fifth inning saw Mike
Nutt reach first on a walk, and get
sacrificed to second by Kevin
Dorcy. However, nobody
advanced Nutt and the side was
retired.
Jim Densley was walked in
the sixth inning, went to second
on an error on which Mike Bac
also made it to first, and scored
when Corey boomed his home
run. The four bagger cleaned the
bases and no other scoring took
place in the sixth.
Leading 8-0 after the top of
the seventh, the Climbers found it
unnecessary to go to the plate,
and had won their second
warmup game in three starts.

Shelton won 13 of 17 events
in their Olympic League meet
with North Kitsap last week and
coasted to an 89-55 victory over
the Vikings on Loop Field last
Thursday.
The win opened the
Highclimbers' track season, and
was the ninth dual meet win in a
row spread over thre.~ years for
Coach Bill Brickert. They closed
the 1968 campaign with two
wins, went undefeated in six
meets last year, and started with
another good effort last
Thursday.
Sweeping just one event, the
triple jump, the Climbers
nevertheless dominated the first
place finishes to sew it up. North
gave the Climbers some battles in
several events, proven by the fact
that the visitors copped 12
seconds.
Senior jumpman Randy Lewis
led the Climbers with three firsts.
He had his best jump of the year
in the long jump, 21' 2", and also
won the pole vault and triple
jump, of which he is the school
record holder.
Sophomore Rob Settle set a
soph record in the high hurdles,
covering the 120 yard distance in
17.2 seconds. Injured in that race,
Settle did not enter the 180 lows,
which he won in the interclass
meet a week ago. He still helped
his team in the high jump, where
he sailed 5'8" to take another
first.
Shelton's 880 relay team,
composed of Chris Elmlund, Jim
Johnsen, Paul Rogerson, and
Tracy Armstrong, won that event.
Several of the members of that
relay team placed well in other
events.
Elmlund won the 220 in 24.5.
Rogerson won the 100 in 11.1,
ran in the winning mile relay, and
placed third in the long jump.
Armstrong also had two legs in
the mile relay.
Senior Jim Connolly ran in
the mile relay and also won the
mile run. He was the Climbers'
only representative in that four
lap run, and outscored the
Vikings in the event all by himself
by getting the first place worth
five points.
Another member fo the mile
relay team was junior George
Lemagie, who won the 440 with
his best time ever, 53.4.
Sophomore Rich James
finsihed second in the two mile,
even though he ran to his best
time ever. There was no third
place in that event. Ken Smith,
the only other man in the race
besides James and the winner, had
to drop out of the race when he
ran into a child in the tunnel that
had cleverly placed himself in
Smith's way.
