Next meet at Naselle on April 12
By EMILY HANSON
emiliy@masoncounty,com
The Mary M. Knight
girls' track team continued
to perform well at its last
meet.
On March 29, the Lady
Owls took third at the
South Bend meet with 60.5
points while the boys' track
team took eighth with five
points.
"Wow, it must be track
season, we had another cold,
wet and windy day for our
track meet at South Bend,"
said Mary M. Knight head
track and field coach Kitty
Brehmeyer.
She said the best per-
formance of the meet came
from junior Mason Cloud,
who improved on his long
jump distance by more than
one foot. Cloud's previous
best distance was 15'3.25"
and at South Bend he im-
proved to 16'3.5".
"This was a great im-
provement, especially con-
sidering the weather and
the condition of the pit,"
Brehmeyer said. "Good job,
Mason."
She said the boys' team,
as far as team points goes,
is performing where she ex-
pects them to be.
"They are a young group,
mostly
freshmen
and sopho-
• mores, also
the events
that they
compete in
often have
several
dozen com-
Mason petitors,"
Cloud she said.
"So their
placings
and times are not bad even
though they are not earning
team points by placing in
the topsix."
With spring break finish-
ing up this week, the track
and field team is not sched-
uled to compete again until
next week.
The team will compete at
3:30 p.m. on April 12 at Na-
selle High School in Naselle.
"Our meet down in Na-
selle should be interesting
to see how well-prepared
we are coming out of spring
break without any competi-
tion this week," Brehmeyer
said. "Once again, we will
be the only 1B school sched-
uled to be there against 12
other schools."
She said the team always
works on doing its best per-
formances and therefore she
hopes to see good times and
distances.

said more tries were
scored but he wasn't sure
by who.
The boys' rugby team
had a bye on Saturday and
both of the teams have
this weekend off. The girls'
team has next weekend off
as well.
The boys' team is sched-
uled to play next at 1 p.m.
on April 14 at home at
Oakland Bay Junior High
(OBJH) against Skagit
Valley while the girls' team
is scheduled to play next at
1 p.m. on April 21 at OBJH
against Valley.
"The boys are playing
a brand new development
team and the girls will play
the Bellingham team we
beat 52-5 which has been
struggling," Nesmith said.
"The way our schedule is
built, we'll do fine."
The girls are currently
3-2 while the boys are 1-2.
