Friar Augustus Tolton
was born a slave on a Mis-
souri farm in 1854. His
mother and her three small
children reached freedom
in Illinois.
After settling in the
town of Quincy, Illinois,
the family continued to
experience hardship and
prejudice. In spite of that,
Tolton persevered and be-
came a Catholic priest.
Every seminary in the
country rejected him, so
he was finally ordained in
Rome. He returned to 11-
linois to work with people
of all races, especially the
former slaves who moved
to Chicago.
Tolton died at the age
of 43 after collapsing from
heat exhaustion in Chica-
go. Some people are seek-
ing sainthood status for
him.
Coleman, who lives in
Florida, is best known as
playing Roger Parker on

Brother and Me.” He made
his TV debut in 1993 on the
' sitcom “Full House,” per-
formed on two episodes of
“The Walking Dead,” and
acted in three incarnations
ofthe franchise “Law & Or-
der." His profile states he
has appeared in more than
50 national commercials.
In 'a news release, Cole-
man said, “Father Tolton’s
story needs to be told. As a
Black man, this very im-
portant part of history is
something that I want the
world to hear about. I truly
feel blessed to be the one
to share Father Augustus
Tolton with all who will
listen.”
