For the eight-month period,
placements of disadvantaged rose
from 5,817 to 8,452, while
veteran placements increased
from 8,365 to 10,185.
The department is
concentrating its resources upon
the placement function and is
making a special effort to have all
employers use the job bank and
the job service with their job
openings.
"Shortening the duration o(
unemployment for individu;ds
claiming unemployment

on the state's benefit trust fired,"
noted Brooks. "In the long run
this reduced outflow could lessen
the tax employers pay to the
fund."

Winter Vacations
Many Hood Canal residents
who went south for the winter are
returning home. Dave and Iva
Collins returned home April 5
after enjoying three months in
Arizona. They did manage to get
into a snowstorm, though, when
they took a week-long houseboat
trip on Lake Powell.
Temperatures on the lake
dropped down to 21 degrees one
night.
Mr. and Mrs. Syd Anderson
and son Dale returned recently
from a week's skiing at Lake
Tahoe, followed with one week in
southern California where they
took in the sights at Disneyland.
They also visited a cousin, Mr.
and Mrs. Chuck Kneeland in
Santa Barbara, California.
Youngster Takes Plane Trip
Jason Cellestine had one of
the greatest spring vacations ever.
He flew down to Los Angeles for
a visit with his aunt° His brother,
Chris Bean, met him there and
treated him to a day at
Disneyland. Jason also went down
to San Diego for a couple days
before returning home.
Easter News Missed
Last Week
The Bob Moffetts went to
Winlock for Easter Sunday with
family of their son Dale. Madge
and Allie Robinson had Easter
Sunday with their families in
Bellevue.
Gary Sceva came from Salem
with some friends for the holiday
weekend• They stayed at the
Sceva cabin at Indian Beach.
Gary's parents, Jack and Marybell
Sceva of Seattle, who had been
visiting in Salem, arrived Sunday
at their Hood Canal cabin to
spend part of the day with Gary
and his friends.
The Hood Canal Easter Egg
Hunt held down at Potlatch State
Park this year turned out to be a
lot of fun for everyone. Children
scrambled in all directions when
the volunteer firemen announced
the start of the hunt over the
loudspeaker system on the large
white fire truck. There were red,
blue and yellow eggs each worth a
cash prize, plus many bags of
candy hidden for all the young
people• Ice cream bars were
passed out to all participants.
