Alder 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. 426-5528 Local mother, son get tree farm honors Charles Chambers and his mother, Charlotte Chambers, of Shelton have been named "Washington Tree Farmers of the Year" in competition sponsored by the Society of American Foresters and the American Forest Institute. Chambers and Mrs. Chambers were presented the award by Governor Dixy Lee Ray April 12 in formal Arbor Day ceremonies at the state capitol in Olympia. Chambers, a professional forester, owns and manages 128 acres of forest land in the state and also manages another i10 acres which his mother owns. Chambers works for the Department of Natural Resources in Olympia as a biometrician. He has been a forester with the department for 19 years, including five years as a farm forestry consultant to non-industrial forest landowners. Chambers began tree farming as a pastime with a small land purchase in Cowlitz County in 1962 and has added to his ownership ever since.
