Local mother, son get
tree farm honors
Charles Chambers and his
mother, Charlotte Chambers, of
Shelton have been named
"Washington Tree Farmers of the
Year" in competition sponsored
by the Society of American
Foresters and the American
Forest Institute.
Chambers and Mrs. Chambers
were presented the award by
Governor Dixy Lee Ray April 12
in formal Arbor Day ceremonies
at the state capitol in Olympia.
Chambers, a professional
forester, owns and manages 128
acres of forest land in the state
and also manages another i10
acres which his mother owns.
Chambers works for the
Department of Natural Resources
in Olympia as a biometrician. He
has been a forester with the
department for 19 years,
including five years as a farm
forestry consultant to
non-industrial forest landowners.
Chambers began tree farming
as a pastime with a small land
purchase in Cowlitz County in
1962 and has added to his
ownership ever since.
Bob Dick, chairman of the
tree farmer selection committee,
says that the Chamberscs were professional land management
selected for the award because approach are 18 growth plots
