Lady Bulldogs take advantage
of North Kitsap's errors
By DEAN SIEMON
The North Mason High School
softball team earned a critical
Olympic League win on the road
Monday at North Kitsap High
School in Poulsbo.
The Lady Bulldogs (2-5, 2-3
LM2A/3A Olympic League) defeat-
ed the Vikings (2-6, 1-5 1A/2A/3A
Olympic League), 11-0, after five in-
nings. The game was shortened due
to the 10-run mercy rule.
Senior Amanda Johnson pitched
the complete five innings while al-
lowing only two hits.
"She made their batters put their
ball in play and we had a solid de-
fense behind her, said North Ma-
son head coach Molleigh Fusare.'
Despite allowing two errors, Fu-
sare was happy with how the Lady
Bulldogs remained disciplined and
focused.
"We've had some mental errors in
past games and when we don't have
those, they make a difference,~ she
said.
Senior Tristan Stromberg went
two for two at the plate with an RBI.
Junior Abbey Marshall was two out
of four with two RBIs. Kori Frohlich
also had two hits in the game.
The Lady Bulldogs collected nine
walks during the game, matching
their nine hits. Both of the first in-
ning runs for North Mason were
scored on wild pitches.
"We were focused and we were
aggressive, so we took advantage
of any misreads on their part,~ Fu-
sare said. "we were going after good
pitches and laying off bad pitches."

Shelton wins
one of two
league games
By DEAN SIEMON
Shelton High School softball
played what could be consid-
ered their best game of the sea-
son in a road loss on Monday at
Bellarmine Preparatory School
in Tacoma, 6-2.
The Lady Highclimbers (2-5,
1-4 4A Narrows League) trailed
the Lions (5-1, 4-0 4A Narrows
League) 2-0 heading into the
top of the sixth inning, where
senior Madison Gaa had a two-
RBI double to tie the game at
2-2.
But Bellarmine Prep scored
four runs in the bottom of the
sixth Um .
Shelton had three errors in
the game in addition to having
difficulty with routine pop flys
that were lost in the windy day.
"One of the hits they got in
the first inning was when it
was really windy and Brittany
Chamberlin had it fall behind
her," said Shelton head coach
Kim Goldsby.
Sophomore Amy Morris had
two hits, both were bunt sin-
gles. But Goldsby was disap-
pointed that only two players
had hits in the game.
"If we can get the kids that
are not hitting well ... if we can
get their heads in the hitting
game, we can be unstoppable,"
Goldsby said.
But despite the league loss,
there was a small victory for
the young Lady Highclimbers.
"Bellarmine is the top of the
le~e and we played head to
head with them until that last
inning," Goldsby said.
