The road to state is main drive for
North Mason senior track leader
By DEAN SIEMON
North Mason senior Kameron
Crosswhite began participating
in the long jump in the seventh
grade and he hasn't stopped
i since.
"It's been a long road," he said
before a Monday practice in Bel-
fair.
i As a sophomore, Crosswhite
:qualified for the WIAA state
i track and field championships.
But last year in his junior year,
he scratched his three jumps
i during a sub-district meet.
"That's something that we've
been working on - consistency,"
Crosswhite. said.
Those scratched jumps have
led to his detei'mination for this
season. During spring break,
when the track team held op-
tional practices at 10 a.m.,
i coaches said Crosswhite made it
to each one early.
"It's really important for me
!to meet my goals," Crosswhite
said.
North Mason track coaches
said that Crosswhite has po-
sitioned himself as one of the
team leaders.
"He's got his goals set a long
time ago and he's been working
hard ever since," said coach Jeff
Bevers. "He has handled success
" and failure well and he's learned
from them."
"He has the management
skills to lead the whole team,"
said coach Miranda Thygesen.
This season, Crosswhite has
changed his focus with coach
Dan Ditmer, who has focused on
his approach at this point in the
season.
"Later on in the season, we're
going to work on the takeoff and
landing," Crosswhite said.
Both Crosswhite and Ditmer
said one of the most important
factors in a good approach for
the long jump is speed - lots and
lots of speed.
