GIRLS GIRLS helton loses second match of the season By DEAN SIEMON Due to recent weather that has caused havoc for all high school sports, the Shelton High School girls tennis team played only their second match of the season, losing at home to Gig Harbor High School in a 5-0 sweep. The Lady Highclimb- ers (0-2) began the season with a loss at Capital High School in Olympia last month. The best performance for Shelton was in the number-two doubles, where junior Alison Hunter and senior Anika Griffin won their first set against Gig Harbor's Car- lye Meisburger and Anna Myers, 6-4. Hunter and Griffin took the lead in the second set 5-4 after winning two straight points. But then serving errors led to losing the second set 7-5. Meis- burger and Meyer would win the third set, 6-2. "Some of that is match conditioning," said Shel- ton head coach John Perry. "That'll come with more experiencee and the more matches we play." Hunter and Griffin also split their first two sets in the match at Capital, the top team in the 3A Nar- rows League. "They're splitting against the toughest teams in the league," Per- ry said.
