operation, but more importantly live
out my passion as a golfer and work at
a golf course every day,” Cation wrote.
“When I came back from college in Ar-
kansas four years ago, the assistant
pro job opened up and I knew it was too
good of an opportunity not to pursue a
career in the golf industry and for-
tunately Sam took a chance on me and
gave the assistant pro job starting my
career in the PGA program.”
Cation .wrote that his first memory of
golf was playing on a course in Sasebo,
Japan, where his father was stationed
with the Navy. When his father was
eventually stationed in Bremerton, Cat- ‘
ion’s family looked at several area golf
courses beforesettling on a home at
Alderbrook.
He started working at the Alderbrook
clubhouse at age 15, washing carts un-
der then-pro Justin Gravatt ‘while com-
peting for Shelton High School and in
various youth tournaments. .
After his 2014 high school gradua-
tion, Cation competed for Grays Harbor
College for two seasons before getting
an offer to play NCAA Division I golf
at the University of Arkansas at Pine
Bluff for the final two years of his col-
legiate eligibility. Following his final
season with the Golden Lions —- which
compete in the Southwestern Athletic
Conference against teams from Texas,
Louisiana, Arkansas and Mississippi —
Cation returned to Union. ’
Cation wrote that when 'it'comes to
teaching, he prefers to keep everything
as simple as possible, regardless of
working with an experienced golfer or
someone that’s just starting out.

helping players improve in any. aspect
of their golf game,” Cation wrote. “Golf
' can be a frustrating sport, but all it
takes is just one good shot to keep that
player coming back for more. If I can
keep the player wanting to learn more
and keep practicing, then that’s a win
for me. ~
“I always ask my students what they
want toachieve‘ out of each lesson. Then
it’s my job to make that happen.”
Cation feels Alderbrook is a fun and
challenging course for golfers of all skill
levels, and wrote that it is “truly a hid-
den gem, well worth the time for play-
ers to play.” His goal is for players to»
feel welcome and have golfing experi-
ence that makes them want to return.
“To this day Alderbrook is the only
establishment I’ve ever worked at,” Cat-
ion wrote. “Alderbrook is more than a
workplace for me. It’s my home and the
members in this community are fam-
ily to me. That is why I’m so proud to
have my first head pro position here at
Alderbrook.” ‘
